Abstract

Electrical distribution system, which is the largest portion of networks, acts as a final power delivery path to the end users. In this paper, a method for location and classification of fault in a radial distribution system is presented. This method utilizes the current measurements at the substation available in the distribution network and the effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated on 9-bus distribution system. The proposed method has been modeled in mat lab simulink of version R2013a. The waveforms were analyzed using the discrete wavelet toolbox by selecting suitable wavelet family to obtain the pre-fault, during the fault and post-fault co-efficient for estimating the fault classification. It was estimated and achieved using Daubechies ‘db5’ discrete wavelet transform.
