Abstract

It is very important for optimization of process parameters to predict the tool wear and surface roughness of the workpiece material. In this paper, Taguchi approach is used to find optimum process parameters for turning while dry machining of hardened EN24 alloy steel using TiAlN coated carbide insert. A L9 orthogonal array, signal-to-noise ratio and analysis of variance (ANOVA) are applied to study performance characteristics of machining parameters (cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut) with consideration of surface roughness and tool life. The conclusions revealed that the feed rate was the most influential factor on the surface roughness and tool life. Experimental results obtained are confirmed by confirmation run to find out error if any.
