Abstract

Reducing weight while increasing or maintaining strength of product is getting to be one of the highly important research topics in this modern industrial world. Steel grating has been the standard industrial foot walk product and has been a popular grating choice for many years. It is used at chemical plants, food processing facilities, oil and gas producers and also in refineries, power plants and petrochemical industries on landing and operating platforms. These industries have great interest in a cheaper, but quality alternative for steel grating since it will offer a great techno-commercial advantage to them. In order to sustain in the global competition, cost reduction has been one of the major focus for project based industries in the present scenario. This can be achieved primarily by the introduction of lightweight materials or composites, design optimization and better manufacturing processes. Composite materials are one of the material families which are attracting researchers and being solutions of such issue. A simple, clear, and comprehensive approach is described in this paper for the design and analysis of composite grating in order to investigate its techno-commercial advantage over steel grating.
