Abstract

The lathe bed characteristics are directly effect on the machining accuracy and are also affected by the thermal, static and dynamic behavior of lathe spindles. This paper presents a review of the static and dynamic behavior of machine tool spindle systems. A comprehensive review has been presented in this work explaining the effects of various operating parameters on the lathe spindle. Also Specific application is illustrated through the study of an actual lathe spindle. In analyzing the spindle behavior, the influences of bearing stiffness, bearing position, damping and the presence of the work piece are discussed through the various research published in reputed journals.
