Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) is a collection of mobile nodes without the help of network infrastructure or centralized administration. Each node in mobile ad hoc network is equipped with a wireless receiver and transmitter which allow it to communicate in its radio communication range. Due to the dynamic topology and self maintenance capabilities, MANETs become more vulnerable. So, Security challenges have become a primary concern to provide secure communication between mobile nodes. Flooding attack is one of the security threat in which the attacker will flood the whole network with fake packets to waste the bandwidth and resources of the network. Attacker will send large amount of RREQ traffic to waste the bandwidth and resources of the network, usually the destination IP chosen for RREQ will not exists in the network , so no node knows the position of the required IP , as a result the RREQ will pass through whole the network. Any destination node will always be busy in receipt of unwanted data. Proposed work in the thesis works on the basis of the signature of the request packets received at the intermediate. The proposed scheme is validated in NS2 simulator and the result shows that it is successfully able to detect the attack and to prevent the network from flooding of request packets.
