Abstract

The honeycomb sandwich construction is one of the structural engineering developed and used in civil applications. Honeycomb structures are natural or man-made assemblies that have the geometry of a honeycomb is used to minimize the amount of used material and reduce the weight and cost of the materials. Depending on the specific mission requirements of the structures, aluminum alloys are used as the material of facings skins. Several core shapes and material may be utilized in the construction of sandwich among them, it has been known that the aluminum honeycomb core has excellent properties with regard to weight savings and fabrication costs. The honeycomb sandwich structures provide the benefits over conventional materials: very low weight, high stiffness, durability and production cost savings. The analysis and UTM testing is applied for the determination of the elastic characteristics of the sandwich structure with honeycomb core, in terms of constraints, loads and displacements.
