Genetic Algorithm based Optimal Power Dispatch

Abstract

Optimization is a technique used for finding the best option among number of possible choices that are feasible solutions in a power system. Genetic algorithm is capable of being applied to an extremely wide range of problems. It is used to solve and analyze the optimal flow dispatch problem. The objective of the thesis is to minimize the power loss and generator fuel cost with greater efficiency and to give accurate results in optimal power flow problem. Economic power dispatch plays a major role in order to prove secure and economic operation in the power system. In this project, genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimal reactive power dispatch for a power system using MATLAB toolbox. The proposed method minimizes the active power loss in a standard IEEE 30 bus system.
