Abstract

The present study was conducted in Basti and Varanasi districts. The purpose of the present study was to assess the self-concept of delinquent children in reform homes of U.P. 100 delinquent children of age 12-18 years have been takes for the study. The self-concept inventory by Dr. R.K. Saraswat (1971) was used to measure self-concept of respondents. Self-concept inventory provides scores for six separate dimensions of self-concept viz, physical, social, intellectual, moral educational and temperamental self-concept. It also gives a total self-concept score. The respondent is provided with total of 48 items in the inventory, having five alternatives to give his responses ranging from “most acceptable least acceptable” description of his self-concept. Data of the present study were collected through self-concept inventory and with the help of well-structured interview schedule. Data collected and analyzed in terms of percentage and chi-square. The results revealed that self-concept of delinquent children was lower. After analysis of data it was found that there is a significant relationship between self-concept and family income. There is revealed that increased the level of income had decreased the percentage of below average and low level of income had decreased the percentage of below average and low level of self-concepts of delinquents.
