Abstract

Aluminium welding cannot be done by conventional process because temperature characteristics of material will be changed. To overcome this drawback, friction stir welding process is done. In friction stir welding two Aluminium plates or sheets are joined together and cylindrical shouldered tool with profile threaded and straight threaded H 13 is used. By friction stir welding process the Aluminium material can be welded without any change in its property, at the same time the weld portion will have high degree of surface finish and high quality weld important process parameters that control the quality of the weld are axial force, rotation, speed (rpm), traverse speed (mm/min) and tool tilt angle and these process parameters were optimized to obtain defect free welded joints on AA -6082.
