Emphasis on Genetic Algorithm(GA) over Ziegler-Nichols PID tuning method for Position Control of Steering Engine using MATLAB

Abstract

increasing complexity of the modern control systems, emphasis has been made on the idea of applying new approaches in order to solve design problems for different control engineering problems. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is a stochastic global search method used for optimization. In position control of steering engine, Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) control is widely used, but it is difficult to achieve optimized control without proper selection of Kp, Ki and Kd. In this paper, a position control system of steering engine is taken and a comparison is done by implementing Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller using genetic algorithm with the classical Zeigler-Nichols (Z-N).
