-Dr.N.K.Arora ; K.A.Parmar; Ranjit K. Odedra
Air pollution is an environmental problem that has significant negative health implications for humans as well as other living organisms. Major primary pollutants that are produced by human activity include nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur dioxide and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which are emitted from combustion at high temperatures. When photocatalytic materials absorb ultraviolet radiations from the sun, hydroxyl radicals and superoxide anions are created that have the ability to react with pollutant molecules such as NOx, SOx, thus converting to less harmful substances. In this paper properties of concrete such as Grade of concrete is M25, W/C ratio is 0.45, Tio2+OPC=3.5:96.5 has been taken. After one day of curing all samples were coated with RhB (Rhodomine dye) solution on top side and oobservations of the reduce the dye is measured between different time intervals. The consumers are more sophisticated and expecting more content in the machines with higher levels of quality. They demand features those are smarter, better crafted and easier to use. They expect their machine to be safe. The problem addressed in this system is, therefore, how to find a holistic Human Machine Interface (HMI), which gives the operator a clear overview and good understanding of the active safety machine systems. To satisfy more demanding customers, system personalization also needs to be considered as well as its interactivity and flexibility. Further, we need to find out which demand are there for HMI in machine system, to be able to implement the design for safe interaction and usability in industry. To understasnd users behaviours and their relation with machine systems, analysiz of various systems based on HMI is done by us. The conclusions of our study is summarized in statements describing how an integrated and flexible HMI, for active safety systems, together with an intuitive interaction could be designed to meet the consumers and the markets increasing demands of today. Forced Convective Heat Transfer Characteristics of Water Through a Minichannel at Higher Reynolds Number.
-Pawan Sharma
Convective heat transfer coefficient and friction factor of water in circular minichannels were measured. An integrated system consisting of a single minichannel on one side, and one heater and four thermocouple temperature
sensors along the channel on the other side were fabricated. Distilled water was used in experiments to investigate the
effect of the Reynolds number to the convective heat transfer and fluid flow in minichannels. The convective heat transfer coefficient of the water in turbulent flow regime was measured to be increased by increasing the Reynolds number. The Nusselt number measured increases with increasing the Reynolds number in turbulent flow regime.
We have measured the pressure drop and convective heat transfer coefficient of water flowing through a uniformly
heated circular minichannel in the turbulent flow regime. The experimental results show that the data for water friction factor show a good agreement with analytical predictions from the Darcy's equation for single-phase flow. Read More...

Operation and Control of STATCOM
-Asst.prof. Chinmay jani ; Apexa Suryakant Purohit
The Static Synchronous Compensator(STATCOM) as the shunt Voltage-Source Converter-Based FACTS (VSC-FACTS) device is introduced in this paper. In this paper the basic operation and control strategy of the STATCOM is presented. The control of VSC-FACTS is based on d-q transformation and decoupled control. Therefore the concept of direct and
quadrature axes and Park Transformation is presented. The basic component of VSC-FACTS is a converter capable
of generating a three phase, almost sinusoidal voltage. Shunt compensation is well-known concept in AC power systems to control the reactive power flow and hence regulate the bus voltage. When the real power demand of the load increases the amount of the required reactive power also increases and shunt compensation is required to provide this additional reactive power demand. The main objective of any AC transmission or distribution line compensation is to
increase the steady state and short term power transfer capability of the existing transmission systems. This
paper describes the general concept of AC transmission system compensation using tools such as shunt capacitive
or reactive compensation and then the new concept of solid - state, converter-based Flexible AC Transmission Systems
(FACTS) is introduced. The paper reviews the previous works on FACTS schemes. Read More...

Optimal Placement of TCSC by Sensitivity Methods Using PSAT
-Sunil N. Malival ; K.C. Chande; Rahil S. Parikh
The increase in power demand has forced the power system to operate closer to its stability limit. Voltage instability and line overloading have become challenging problems due to the strengthening of power system by various means. The nature of voltage stability can be analyzed by the production, transmission and consumption of reactive power. One of the major causes of voltage instability is the reactive power unbalancing which occurs in stressed condition of power system. And also in deregulated electricity market, it may always not be possible to dispatch all of the contracted power transactions due to congestion of the transmission corridors. The ongoing power system restructuring requires an opening of unused potentials of transmission system due to environmental, right-of-way and cost problems which are major hurdles for power transmission network expansion. So Flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices play an important role in improving the performance of a power system by improving the voltage profile and removing the congestion in the transmission lines, but these devices are very costly and hence need to be placed optimally in power system. FACTS device like thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) can be employed to reduce the flows in heavily loaded lines, resulting in a low system loss and improved stability of network. In this paper, a method based on real power performance index and reduction of total system VAR power losses has been proposed to decide the optimal location of TCSC. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated on IEEE 6-bus power system. Read More...
