Study of Optimal Excitation of Self-Excited Induction Generators by Genetic Algorithm
-Raju Basak ; Hamed Yahoui; Nicolas Siauve
It has been well established that, Induction Generator (SEIG) is one of the most effective device for generating wind energy followed by wind turbine due to some added advantage of asynchronous properties, rugged design and brush less operation. Wind power is found to be most suitable for small rural areas, where abundant quantity of wind is available. Mathematically it is found that excitation of SEIG is the function of load, motor speed, output frequency and magnetizing reactance. The magnetising reactance can be found out experimentally. In this paper an attempt has been made to focus the optimal value of excitation required for different machines under the variation of the three functional variables within a certain range and keeping the output voltage above a certain level. The main objective of this paper is to study how output voltage and frequency with optimal excitation of the capacitor bank (under variation of the above three variables) vary with the machine ratings. Genetic Algorithm is applied for global search to find the optimal point of excitation of the different machines. Read More...

Material and Failure Analysis of Six Cylinder Diesel Engine Oil Cooler Cover
-Akshay Ravindra Shitole ; Rishi Pratap Singh; Sahil S. Anarse; Nitin C. Chandratre; Vijay S. Diwate
Oil cooler cover is generally the most important part of the internal combustion engine. Oil cooling is the use of engine oil as a coolant, typically to remove surplus heat from an internal combustion engine. The hot engine transfers heat to the oil which then usually passes through a heat-exchanger, typically a type of radiator known as oil cooler. The cooled oil flows back into the hot object to cool it continuously. Hence study and analysis is done on the Oil cooler cover regarding its repetitive errors or problems. The errors are first read out from the notes or observations given by the division and then actually observed. In all nearly 100 engines were stripped and the problem of oil mixing with water was found. Now for this instance chemical composition of material plays a major role. For required results, the method used for analysing the chemical composition of the material is Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES). Read More...

Beef Tallow Biodiesel as an Alternative Transportation Fuel
-Pradeep Kale ; Samson Yohannes; Karunakar Pothuganti; Somanath B
Recycling of waste products are one of the most important issues in developing and developed countries. Beef tallow is one of these residues produced in slaughter houses and primarily is utilized in soap production industry. However, when this industry is overloaded, the extra fats are usually incinerated or disposed in a sanitary landfill. Due to which it will increase the water pollution in the town. However, beef tallow may be consumed in biodiesel production. Therefore, in this work, the process of biodiesel production in a pilot plant is proposed using beef tallow as raw material with methanol and potassium hydroxide as catalyst. The quality of the produced biodiesel will evaluated by measuring different properties like density, viscosity, calorific value, flash point, fire point, pour point, cloud point and cetane number. Analysis will give final product contains ester compositions which can be used as biodiesel fuel in diesel engines. The viscosity of natural beef tallow was very high, and actually, it was solid; however, after transesterification the viscosity of the final product will become less and it became liquid. The viscosity of the final product measured at 40°C is 5.1 mm2 s−1, and the comparison of this biodiesel with the data of ASTMD-445 standard resulted in the similarity of this product with petroleum diesel. In this research, the process of biodiesel production from beef tallow and its properties are explained. Alkaline transesterification of beef tallow with methanol decreases the viscosity of the final synthesized product and produces a high quality biodiesel for diesel engines. Beef tallow is one of the low cost residual materials available locally in slaughter houses of Ethiopia. Therefore, the slaughter houses can be considered as one of the available source to produce biodiesel. Read More...

Performance Analysis of Different Distortionless PAPR Reduction Techniques
-Kinjal P. Anand
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a promising modulation technique for transmitting large amounts of digital data through radio waves. One major drawback in OFDM communication is peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). OFDM Suffers as the no of Subcarriers operating in the large dynamic range operates in the non-linear region of amplifier due to OFDM suffer the PAPR problem. Application of high power amplifiers results in increased component cost. Mainly because of the nonlinearity of the high power amplifier, these results in high out-of-band radiation, inter-carrier interference, and bit error rate performance degradation. There are many techniques are available for PAPR reduction. Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) technique is an attractive technique for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. However, optimum PTS (OPTS) requires an exhaustive search over all combinations of allowed phase weighting factors, resulting in high computational complexity. Partial transmit sequences (PTS), an attractive technique of PAPR reduction, provides significant PAPR reduction performance for (OFDM) signals. Read More...

-Pauline Jothi Kiruba G.J ; Vijay Kumar C ; Tamilvanan D; Thangaraj K
As the passions towards two wheelers are increasing it is required to provide frequent updates in the vehicle. This updates makes people more passion towards two wheelers and it also increase the cost of the vehicle. If the cost of the vehicle is increased, security system in the vehicle should also be increased. The security system nowadays is a traditional one. It requires more updates it is reflected by the increasing statistics of theft. This project is proposed mainly to provide next level of security to system, in the existing two wheelers. In this project the security system was designed to provide control over the ignition of the vehicle. Based on the range of the RF device used, ignition system of the vehicle is operated. So only if the RF device comes in a certain range the vehicle can be ignited else the ignition system will get turned off. This project also provides a vast range of GPS tracking facility and it is made possible by using Digimesh topology. In order to replace GSM module, Digimesh device is used for transmission of data. It most probably overcomes all the difficulties of using GSM module like deactivation of SIM card, low balance in SIM card, misuse of SIM card, network problem etc., so it overcome the problems during tracking . As Digimesh topology is used the range of security system can extend as per requirement. It is designed also to provide security against unauthorised removal of the device. It also reduces the cost during its operation of tracking the device. So the entire system can be made more secure without inference of peoples comfort. Read More...

Peak Load Demand Management in Substation Using Labview
-Sakthivel R ; Dhanalakshmi S; Micheal Prince A; Priyadharshini K
This project aims to utilizing renewable energy sources during peak load times which could diversify our nation’s energy portfolio. Renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, have the vast potential to reduce the dependence of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions in the electric sector. In day to day life all industries and application in various fields to manage the peak load is the difficult one, the power cut take place to compensate the power demand. This power demand can be minimized by interfacing renewable energy (solar, wind) with normal generated power. During peak load times, if the renewable energy sources are made under use, the normal power produced would be saved for a period of time. The load management is done continuously in the substation by monitoring and controlling the loads in the distribution systems. The load management is done by using My RIO protocol with LabVIEW software. The proposed system aims to minimizing the power cut, to save non-renewable energy resources for future generations and also to meet the power crisis. Moreover, solar and wind energy does not pollute the atmosphere like other power plants that rely on combustion of fossil fuels like coal, natural gases, etc. Read More...

-T.Vignesh ; G.Vinetha; T.Kalaimathi; S.Sathishkumar; D.Silambarasan
Energy and environmental issues are among the most important problems of public concern. Wind and solar energy may be one of the alternative solutions to overcome energy shortage and to reduce greenhouse gaseous emission. Using electric cars in cities can significantly improve the air quality there. The basic principle of solar based electric vehicle is to use energy that is stored in a battery to drive the motor and it moves the vehicle in forward or reverse direction. The DC voltage from the PV panel is then boosted up using a boost DC-DC converter, and then an inverter, where DC power is converted to AC power as well as AC power is generated by using wind turbines, ultimately runs the Brushless DC motor which is used as the drive motor for the vehicle application. This paper focuses on the design and implementation of the various components, namely: solar panel, wind turbine, charge controller, battery, DC-DC boost converter, DC-AC power converter (inverter circuit), arduino processor and BLDC motor for the vehicle application. This idea, in future, may help protect our fuels from getting extinguished. Read More...
