The present paper investigates the performance of four switch three phase inverter (FSTPI) and six switch three phase inverter (SSTPI) fed induction motor drive. Direct torque control of induction motor drives are done mainly using six switch three phase inverter. In low power applications, six switch three phase inverter can be replaced by four switch three phase inverter. FSTPI helps reduction in switching losses, gate drive requirements, circuit cost and computational time. Four unbalanced voltage vector produced by this four switch inverter is used for synthesis of six balanced voltage vectors having same magnitude as that of six switch three phase inverter by using a suitable lookup table. A comparative simulation study is done between four switch three phase inverter and six switch three phase inverter fed induction motor drives and verified using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Read More...

Now day’s microgrid is popular because it can be handle the impacts of Distributed Generators (DGs) and make conventional grids suitable for large scale arrangements of distributed generation. However, the introduction of microgrids brings some challenges. Protection of a microgrid is one of them. Due to the existence of generators at all levels of the distribution system and two operating modes, i.e. Grid Connected and stand-alone modes, the fault currents in a system vary substantially. Consequently, the traditional fixed current relay protection schemes need to be improved. This paper presents a conceptual design of a microgrid protection system which utilizes extensive communication to monitor the microgrid and update relay fault currents according to the variations in the system. This paper also have MATLAB simulation as well as results are presented for both the modes. Read More...

Boost Converter fed PV Interfaced AC Distribution System Incorporating Islanding Detection Technique
-Indu M ; Soumya A V
The increased penetration of inverter connected Distributed Generation (DG) in the utility systems demands an appropriate level of monitoring and detection mainly under islanding conditions. This paper proposes a photovoltaic (PV) system interfaced with AC distribution system incorporating islanding detection technique. The maximum power of the PV system is tracked using Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) technique called Beta MPPT technique. The MPPT is achieved by varying the duty cycle of the boost converter. A three phase grid-tie inverter is used for interfacing with the grid. Under unscheduled islanding operation, the photovoltaic source will continue supplying power which causes potential risk to the line workers and user equipments. This necessitates the enforcement of a rapid and accurate islanding detection method. Inorder to detect the moment of islanding, a passive anti-islanding technique is proposed here. The feasibility of the system were verified in MATLAB/Simulink. Read More...

-Mrs Rekha A Kulkarni ; Dr. Suhas H Patil; Dr. N Balaji
As there is fast change in the design of computing systems and networking technologies, distributed computing is gaining prominence. Cloud computing being the form of distributed computing provides numbers of services to the user or to the large scale applications. Cloud computing is characterized by providing on demand services, resource pooling, rapid elasticity etc. Workflow scheduling (WFS) on cloud systems mainly focuses on task allocation to achieve the desired workload balancing by providing optimal utilization of available resources so as to meet quality of service (QOS) parameters. In a heterogeneous environment like cloud handling real time tasks poses challenges of VM scheduling, VM migration and load balancing to meet the deadlines. Implementation of real-time tasks poses a lot of problems due to the unpredictability of the tasks involved and due to the lack of complete task knowledge prior to the execution process. Fuzzy logic can be used in dynamic scheduling of these tasks based on the load information at various VMs processing units. Fuzzy logic uses the system's deadline miss ratio (DMR) and system throughput to calculate a value which provides a system performance metric used to drive the system to the desired level of performance. Study on Welding Procedure Specifications as Per ASME Sec IX
-Satish B G ; Dr. Arunkumar Jeergi
A welding procedure Specification (WPS) is the formal written document describing welding procedures, which provides direction to the welder or welding operators for making sound and quality production welds as per the code requirements. The purpose of the document is to guide welders to the accepted procedures so that repeatable and trusted welding techniques are used. A WPS is developed for each material alloy and for each welding type used. Specific codes and/or engineering societies are often the driving force behind the development of a company's WPS. A WPS is supported by a Procedure Qualification Record (PQR or WPQR). A PQR is a record of a test weld performed and tested (more rigorously) to ensure that the procedure will produce a good weld. It is the responsibility of every individual organization to conduct the welding procedures and welder qualifications tests and record and follow up the code like boiler pressure vessel code ASME section IX.The scope of our project is to understand the requirements of the pressure vessel code with regards to the maintenance of quality of welding and how it is ensured. We will prepare a welding procedure as per the boiler pressure vessel code, witness the welding for monitoring the welding variables like current, voltage, type of electrode, type of material etc. Witnessing the mechanical tests like Tensile Test, Bend Test of the test specimens which are prepared as per the standard. Analysis of Aircraft Wardrobe using Honeycomb Composite over Aluminium using Nastran Software
-Divya H Gour ; Prof. Nafess Khan; Prof. R. N Dehankar
Reduction of mass has always presented a challenge to the Design Engineer. A typical example of this is in the Aircraft Industry, where every extra kilogram of structural mass costs the Airline operator thousands of rends each year. This led engineers to look to more efficient structures, and in 1938, a patent application went through for Honeycomb manufacture, by a company in the U.K called Aero Research Limited. The basic idea was to use the Honeycomb as a shear web between two skins. At this stage the Adhesive Technology was not yet sufficiently developed to bond skins directly on to Honeycomb. The engineers, seeing the benefits of a lightweight expanded core with integral skins, carried on with the development of using end grain balsa as a core, bonded to plywood skins. This particular sandwich or bonded structure was used extensively on the Mosquito and Vampire Aircraft. The development of Epoxy Resin made possible the bonding of aluminum skins to Aluminum Honeycomb. This occurred in 1954. Since then many developments in the Honeycomb field have taken place. One of the most common materials used in Aircraft structures today is *Nomex Honeycomb. One such development is the Fibrelam Panel which has a Nomex Honeycomb core with integral epoxy glass skins. This panel is used extensively for flooring in many of the world's major Airlines. The material is also used for partitions, Aircraft galleys, and overhead bins. This paper describes the technology developments created by composite material. Read More...

-Varsha Jathar ; Louella Menezes Mesquita e Colaco
Wireless sensor network are being used widely across various security applications such as monitoring, tracking, surveillance systems and also controlling the areas in military and battlefield. However widely used wireless networks are prone to unique security challenges such as node forgery, denial of service attack, and other hostile network attacks. In military surveillance system an intruder can introduce malicious nodes or manipulate the existing nodes to set up malicious node. To avoid participation of malicious node from joining the sensor network, a security consideration is required in the design of network protocol. Also military applications require multimedia data such as images, text or videos to be transmitted across the network area. In this paper, we propose a security protocol to provide authentication of nodes within the sensor network and perform multimedia transfer between source and destination. When deployed within network a high degree of security is achieved compared to conventional security applications. This paper implements ECC based authentication protocol suitable for military applications using wireless network where security is in demand. Read More...
