-R R Suvarna Varma ; A S S Vara Prasad; S Ashok Kumar
In this project we have dealt with the use of saw dust ash as replacement for cement by some percentage in concrete in order to minimize the amount of cement and enhance concrete properties. We have various pozzalanic materials and saw dust ash is one among them. The basic motto of the present program is to determine the change in the properties of concrete for the amount of saw dust ash replaced. In the present study the materials taken are Cement of 53 grade, aggregate of size suitable to obtain good mix, sand pertaining to zone II, water for through mixing, main ingredient of saw dust ash. Saw dust is initially carbonized and sieved. And various tests are conducted on the material like sieve analysis, fineness modulus, specific gravity for aggregate, fineness test for cement etc. The concrete mix corresponding to M20 is chosen for the study. The mix design yielded a proportion of 1:1.49:3.08 which represent cement: fine aggregate: coarse aggregate respectively. The water cement ratio considered is 0.5.Thus using the proportion the materials are mixed. Two mixes with varying proportions of saw dust ash are considered. They are mix1 is obtained by mix1 is obtained by replacing 5%of cement by weight with saw dust ash and mix2 is obtained by replacing 10 %of cement by weight with saw dust ash. The concrete is thoroughly mixed in a concrete mixer and placed in the moulds by compacting it using a plate vibrator. The specimens are named and the date of casting is noted. The specimens are removed from the mould after duration of one day and are placed in water for curing. Tests are carried out on the specimens in duration of 1 day,7days,14days and 28 days and the test results are noted .Various tests carried out on the specimens are for cubes compression tests are done and the cube compressive strength is determined, for cylinders split tensile test is done in order to know the tensile strength. Hence the test results obtained for the two mixes chosen are compared and also compared with the results with that of the actual mix when no proportion of cement is replaced by saw dust ash. Design and Bolt Optimization of Steam Turbine Casing using FEM Analysis
-Prathap S ; Prathap S; Dr. L J Sudev
Steam turbines are the device used to convert thermal energy of steam into mechanical energy to produce electrical energy. Its components are made up of alloy steels operated at high temperature and high pressures. Steam turbine casings are the massive cast structure where high temperature and high pressure steam from boiler passes through nozzles. Casing withstands steam pressure & support internal components. Material used for casing is chromium steels. Bolts and diameter of bolt holes play a vital role between casings failure of which is harmful to external environment. High pressure steam causes stresses on casing wall which is responsible for cracking & casing distortion (deformation) if it crosses yield stress. Holes & notches are the critical area for crack growth as it is highly stress concentrated area. If it is reduced the stresses can be reduced greatly and also material can be saved considerably. In the present study, design of casings is done using UG software. Linear static analysis and bolt optimization is carried out with FEM Analysis using ANSYS WORKBENCH 14.5. Linear static analysis is carried out to check the structural performance of the casing under static load condition of pressure. The bolt diameters are varied and the resulting stresses are compared for optimization. However, the results show the design is safe since stresses caused by pressure is below yield stress of 535 MPa, deformation is under limiting value of 1. Stress concentration area is reduced with the bolt optimization. Since casing with 26mm bolt diameter produces least stress it is recommended. Read More...

Evaluation of Risk Reduction Options for Floating Roof Storage Tanks
-Satheesh Kumar.V ; Dr. Nihal Siddiqui
Storage of highly flammable hydrocarbons such as crude oil in considerable quantity is inevitable in refineries as well as petrochemical manufacturing facilities for meeting production requirements. However, these storages pose serious threats to the safety of the installation and the environment as has been experienced during major fire incidents like Indian Oil Corporation Jaipur oil terminal fire in 2009 and IOC Hazira oil terminal fire in 2013. In order to prevent such disastrous incidents, a thorough review of the fire protection philosophy and up gradation of both hardware and software control measures are required. This project aims to evaluate the risk reduction options for floating roof tanks storing class-A hydrocarbon liquid. Here, the term “Risk†primarily intends to focus on “Fire Risk†which is the most prominent aspect of operating huge storage of hydrocarbons like naphtha and hence environmental aspects are not considered. The evaluation has been carried out by reviewing the available risk control measures on a major industrial site and analyzing improved options in the current market and international best operating practices.secure and more efficient border environment. Environmental Affects of Wind Energy
-Shakeeb Anjum Malik ; Shujait Ali Jafri; Atul Kumar Dadhich
Human being has captured the energy in wind for many of years, both for sailboats and powering wind engines at land. Of all non-conventional energy resources, wind power is the grown up in terms of commercial growth. This resource of energy is fascinating due of its renewable nature and its free of cost availability. Strength for growth is larger, and the world’s capacity is far greater than the world’s total energy utilization. Globally, a total capacity of around about 435 GW has been set up so far, with a yearly growth of about 100 TWh. The most difficult tasks for more growth are attached to economy, use of land, environment affects and grid strength. The development of non-conventional energy resources has never before seen over the last 30 years. Wind energy and solar power are in service with double figure development rates since 2000. No other part of the energy zone has grown this kind of faster growth. Wind power is the most economical and more developing power plant technology, because of lowering set up costs, no fuel costs are required as wind is freely available and time required for construction is also smaller a year or so , in comparison to over 10 to 15 years to construct a nuclear power plant. The impacts of wind energy on the environment most of the time are taken to be positive, by means of the production of non-conventional energy and the potential movements of mining works, air pollution, and release of greenhouse gases is linked with conventional energy sources such as fossil fuels like coal and petroleum. The deep knowledge understanding of the environmental and economic impacts of any one energy resource lies in complete knowledge of how that energy resource moves or is moved by various energy resources, and it in turn lies with more complete understanding of the environmental and economic impacts of all other energy sources available. This study gives an analysis to understand those environmental impacts, both positive and negative in nature. Read More...

Optimal Web Service Selection with Recommendation and Pre-allocation
-Anuradha Vijay Kore ; Dr. D. S. Bhosale
QoS plays an important role in Web service recommendation, according to which similar services can be ranked and selected for users. The number of publicly available web services, is steadily increasing on the internet. However, this proliferation makes it hard for a user to select a proper web service among a large amount of service candidates which provide similar functionalities. Quality of service is considered as the most important non-functional criterion for service selection. This research provides comprehensive information for selecting an optimal web service by providing recommendation and predicting its behavior in terms of response time. When user wish to use any service the system can provide recommendations, but only recommendation is not sufficient to improve QoS of the web service so that scheduling is applied on the user requests to optimize the performance and reduce the response time and for more precise response time service provider allocate a service to a user before his request that is called pre-allocation. The system also provides a standard way to measure and predict web service behavior in terms of response time sing HMM (Hidden Marcove Model). Read More...

A Certain Investigation on Cluster Based Medium Access Control and QoS Aware Routing Protocol for Heterogeneous Networks
-Naveena ; Mrs. A. Anusha Priya
Clustering is a process to subdivide the sensing field of sensor network into number of clusters. Each cluster selects a leader called cluster head. A cluster head may be elected by the sensor node in the cluster or pre assigned by the network designer. Optimized Clustering can save lot of energy in the network. In our paper we have surveyed various clustering protocols for wireless sensor networks and compared on various parameters. The performance of the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol has been shown to degrade considerably in an ad hoc network with nodes that transmit at heterogeneous power levels. We conclude that the schemes together offer a simple yet effective and viable means of performing medium access control and QOS scheduling techniques in heterogeneous networks. Read More...
