Analyzing Inventory Control Techniques of Material Management in Construction
-Ambrin. B ; Dr. Arulselvan. S
Construction materials account for more than 50% of the total cost of the project. Efficient materials management plays a major role in the successful completion of the project within estimated cost and time. This study mainly focuses on Materials planning and Inventory control as these are the major aspects of materials management. S-curve analysis is performed to measure the deviation in planned materials cost and actual materials cost. S-curve analysis is performed for 5construction projects in which 3 projects are for commercial purpose and 2 projects are for residential purpose. The result of the S-curve analysis show that the actual materials cost is higher than the planned materials cost in any type of construction. The major reasons for cost variance are identified and corrective actions are suggested. Inventory control techniques such as ABC classification and EOQ analysis are performed to maintain the inventory in an optimum level. Inventory control techniques are applied for a construction in ongoing status. By applying inventory control techniques such as ABC classification and EOQ analysis the stock out problems of some A-class materials can be avoided. EOQ analysis also helps to save some substantial amount of money if price hike in materials is predicted in advance and this savings can be utilized for other purposes related with the project. After the application of ABC and EOQ analysis, the total cost of inventory will be reduced. Read More...

Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition Engine Technology - A Review
-Vaibhav Mahadev Samant ; Prof. J. V. Chopade
Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine technology is relatively new and has not matured sufficiently to be commercialized compared with conventional engines. Now a days the challenges facing are mainly emissions (NOx and soot) and Fuel economy .The factors to be considered while designing this kind of technology are, high compression ratio, lean homogeneous air fuel mixture, complete and instantaneous combustion, which lead to homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI). It can use spark ignition(SI) or compression ignition(CI) engine configurations, capitalizing on the advantages of both: high engine efficiency with low emissions levels. HCCI engines can use a wide range of fuels with low emissions levels. Due to these advantages, HCCI engines are suitable for use in a hybrid engine configuration, where they can reduce the fuel consumption even further. HCCI engines can operate on gasoline, diesel fuel, and most alternative fuels. This paper reviews the technology involved in HCCI engine development, its advantages and disadvantages However, HCCI engines have some disadvantages, such as knocking and a low to medium operating load range, which need to be resolved before the engine can be commercialized. Therefore, a comprehensive study has to be performed to understand the behavior of HCCI engines. Read More...

Spatio-Temporal Visual Saliency Detection Model for High Dynamic Range Content
-Lini P Joy ; Meera Panicker P R; Hari S
The spatio-temporal visual system is a computational approach to model the bottom-up visual saliency for HDR input by combining spatial and temporal visual features. The main advantage of this system is that it will reduce the cognitive processing efforts. Computational models of visual attention can be applied to areas such as computer graphics, video coding and quality assessment. The proposed model stands apart from the existing models in the way that it is the only model applicable to HDR videos. Utilizing this method will allow to locally adjust the contrast of HDR images and videos according to the areas of interest provided by the saliency map. This spatio-temporal model provides information about visually important areas. With this information, compression methods for HDR could be more effective by allocating more bit rate resources to visually important areas of each frame and less to the rest of the frame. In this method both spatial and temporal cues are taken into account leading to two saliency maps: the spatial saliency map and the temporal saliency map. A dynamic fusion method is proposed to combine both the spatial and temporal saliency maps. The saliency predictions proposed by this method are evaluated through data collected from eye tracking experiments using an HDR prototype display. Performance evaluations using three quantitative metrics show that the proposed model outperforms the existing state-of-the-art models. Read More...

CFD Analysis of Effect of Variation in Angle of Attack over NACA 2412 Airfoil through the Shear Stress Transport Turbulence Model
-Shivananda Sarkar ; Shaheen Beg Mughal
Airfoil is the shape of a wing, which plays a pivotal role in generating adequate lift to adjust the heaviness of the aircraft body and to help it fly. Simulation for NACA 2412 airfoil was performed using the available Computational Fluid Dynamics techniques. The model of the NACA 2412 airfoil was prepared using the coordinates obtained from the University of Illinois’ airfoil database. Popular CAE software Ansys (CFX) was used in this case. Firstly, the coordinates were imported to Ansys geometry modeler, and then CFX (Fluid Flow) was used to generate mesh and conduct the experimentation. At the end of model & mesh generation, simulation was done to observe the effect of flow on the said airfoil model at a high Reynolds number and the variation in angle of attack with respect to the aerodynamic forces acting on it. To conduct the entire experiment, I did not opt for physical set up as the physical model has to be placed inside a wind tunnel, and this process is quite laborious, time consuming and expensive too at the same time. Moreover, the wind tunnel experiments are subjected to the accuracy of the developed model. With the advancement of high configured computers and computational methods, the flow behaviors of the fluid and its effect can be accurately analyzed. Read More...

Survey on Android Application for Deaf and Dumb People
-Santosh Tamboli ; Namrata N. Waghotkar; Shweta K. Kale
As regards intellectual development, the deaf individual is the most handicapped of the afflicted class. The term "deaf and dumb", so frequently is applied to that class of individuals who neither can hear nor speak is becoming obsolete among the educators of the deaf, as it implies a radical defect in both the auditory and the vocal organism. Persons who are born deaf, or who lose their hearing at a very early age, are unable to speak, although their vocal organs may be unimpaired. They become dumb because, being deprived of hearing; they are unable to imitate the sounds which constitute speech. There are found individuals who can hear, but cannot speak. To such may be applied the term dumb, in as much as they are either destitute of the power of speech or are unwilling to speak and are lacking in intelligence. The people who cannot speak or have lost their ability to speak in some accident, it becomes difficult for normal people to understand their message and convey their message to the deaf and dumb people by using sign language. Keen Cardinal Hospital Administration System
-Hakkem.B ; Rohini.R; Saranyadevi.E; Santhiya.N.K; Surender.K.S
Most of the people, aging around 35 to 45, suffer from few regular problems like arthritis, diabetes, blood pressure etc. These people have to go to the concerned specialists for regular checkups to maintain their health properly. The doctors advise the patients with necessary things to follow and also prescribe with medicines if necessary. The doctor maintains a record of the patient and also suggests the same to the patient. In this process, they provide prescriptions to the patients so as to bring along with them in their next visit. Whenever the patient goes to the doctor for his/her checkup, the doctor initially observes the prescription having the details of the patient’s health record and then performs the basic tests like the pulse rate, body temperature of the patient, weight etc. There may be chances that the patient may lose the prescription while going to the doctor. Thus, the doctor has to perform the tests once again on the patient to get the overall idea of the patient’s health. And also, most of the people nowadays prefer cards for everything rather than carrying records, cash with them. Thus, in order to avoid this, we have developed a project called Hospital Management System using Smart card. The patient will be provided with a health card when he visits to the doctor for the first time. The health conditions of the patient will be tested and all these details will be saved into his/her health card. When the patient comes to the doctor for his/her review, the patient has to insert the health card into the smart card reader present at the doctor. The parameters pertaining to the patient’s health will be displayed on the LCD. Thus, the doctor after having a glance on these details will perform the tests once again if necessary and these values will be updated into the health card for the next review to the doctor. Finally all the details are stored in web server using IoT. This paper will focus on Li-Fi technology for transmitting personal information about patient. Read More...

Review of Implementing CVT for Manual Transmission
-Karthikeyan. S ; Pawan Kumar. A. R; Mahesh Kumar. S; Naveen Kumar. A
The power losses during gear changes are a serious issue to be addressed in practical vehicles. Though only a small amount of power is lost for a given instance, it becomes a major factor when we move in depth into the efficiency part. An attempt has been made for the study of implementing CVTs for manual transmission and has been put forward. It has been proved lately, that the usage of a CVT or a continuously variable transmission reduces the losses to a considerable level by providing an infinite number of gear ratios unlike the stepped gears [8]. By merging the conventional manual gearshifting with the CVT principle, multiple gear ratios can be achieved and this optimizes the efficiency of power transmission. The study has been done based on the prevailing conventional gearboxes, their limitations and cons, and comparison of CVTs with them. Read More...

A Review Paper based on Experimental investigation of Triangular Duct with Artificial Roughness
-Ashish Ajitkumar Jayappa ; Prof. S. R. Patil
Surface roughness is one of the first active techniques to be considered for the augmentation of forced convection heat transfer. It is necessary that the flow near the heat transfer surface should be turbulent so as to attain higher coefficient of heat transfer. However, energy for creating such turbulence has to come from the fan or blower and the excessive turbulence leads to excessive power requirement to make the air flow through the duct. After review of different papers we have concluded that artificial roughness increases heat transfer of any heated wall. Rough surface is also increases pressure drop. From this study we can concluded that it is possible to make artificial roughness of plate in triangular duct and compare that with plane surface in experimentally and analytically. Read More...

Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow over Wavy Channel or Surface
-Ambar Diwan ; Surjeet Singh Chuohan
This paper concentrates to extensive review on the fluid flow and heat transfer over an wavy surface and channel. Wavy surfaces and channel have been employed in many environmental and industrial applications. The key factor for adopting such shaped (wavy) instead of using flat surface is due to improving the mass and heat transfer mechanisms, associated with large pressure variations.
Fundamentally, the fully developed flow over a wavy surface, in either laminar or turbulent regime, is much further complex than that over a flat surface because of the additional parameters to be utilized and the correlated flow phenomena to be deduced. Numerous researches perform numerical-computation simulations and experimentation in order to explore the flow characteristics over wavy surfaces are stated in this paper.

Smart Phase-Control and Real Time Monitoring of Single Phase Induction Motor with Respect to Load
-Ravikant Adil ; Prashant Garg
Single Phase AC motors continue to be the primary solution for air-movement, pumping and compressor applications. Their low cost and availability make them ideal for low-performance systems. DC Brushless platforms attempt to address these applications but their higher cost and complexity continue to form impenetrable barriers of entry. They are viewed as overkill for most applications. Single-Phase Inverter Drives have come on the scene, making headway, but remain complex and costly. Phase-Control solutions are being revisited and upgraded to fill the void. This paper explores the performance limitations and trade-offs of the Phase-Control solution and clarifies the boundaries under which the TRIAC Phase-control is preferred method of speed control and the improvements provided by smart phase-control using ARDUINO hardware and MATLAB. Forecasting of Power Grid Synchronization Failure and Real Time Sensing of Frequency and Voltage
-Indrojeet Chakraborty ; Prashant Garg
There are several power generation units connected to the grid such as hydel, thermal, solar etc to supply power to the load. These generating units need to supply power according to the rules of the grid. These rules involve maintaining a voltage variation within limits and also the frequency. If any deviation from the acceptable limit of the grid it is compulsory that the same feeder should automatically get disconnected from the grid which by effect is termed as islanding. This prevents in large scale brown out or black out of the grid power. So it is preferable to have a system which can warn the grid in advance so that alternate arrangements are kept on standby to avoid complete grid failure. This paper is presented and designed to develop a system to forecasting before the synchronization failure and give alertness if any external supply source to the power grid on sensing the abnormalities in frequency and voltage.[1] This system is based on a microcontroller Arduino uno hardware and Matlab software. Arduino monitors the under/over voltage as well frequency being derived from a set of comparators. As the frequency of the mains supply cannot be changed, the project uses a function generator for changing the frequency, while a potentiometer is used to vary the input voltage to test the functioning of the project. A lamp load which indicates a predictable blackout, being driven from the Arduino in case of voltage/frequency going out of acceptable range. MATLAB can also support to make the database of all standard preset values.[2] Read More...

Waste Water Treatment of Textile Industry : Review
-M. A. Boda ; S. V. Sonalkar; M. R. Shendge
The discharge of colored wastewater represents a severe environmental crisis and community healthiness worry. Color taking away from textile wastewater has turn out to be a huge challenge over the previous decades, and until now, there is no single and inexpensively eye-catching cure way that can successfully decolorize the wastewater. Textile industry is a conventional and pillar industry, which possesses an extensive part of the national economy. In latest days, particular concentration has been paid to the application of biotechnology in textile industry. Treatment of textile effluents with biotechnology, textile effluents typically include high concentration of inorganic as well as organics, and are then hard to treat. Membrane processes can be used for lots of these wastewaters in the textile industry. Textile industries stand for a significant environmental difficulty because of their huge water consumption. Textile wastewater is known to display strong color, a huge quantity of suspended solids, extremely unpredictable pH, high temperature and high COD concentration. Treatment technologies were evaluated for application in water use again for the textile industry. Recently, a growing application of so called Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) to industrial wastewater has been observed. Membrane process is able to be used for several of these wastewaters in textile industry. Expansion of new type of textile polymers and fibers, like naturally colored cotton, colored silk and silk gene-sequence, and spider silk non-woven’s, chitin fiber etc. A straightforward technique is anticipated to bring to a halt of TiO2 for photo catalytic transformation of organic pollutants in aqueous solution.
