-Mr. Nitesh K A ; Ms. Divya C M; Ms. Pushpa H S; Ms.Rakshitha M B; Ms. Renuka Malagi
Food storage facility have gained plenty of importance over a decades, due to the damages created by the rodents to the food stored in food storage facility unit, billions of people do not have an access sufficient and hygienic food which in turn affects the agricultural and economic growth of the country, hence to overcome these problems a model is designed that incorporates three main techniques to drive away the rodents from food storage unit or agricultural fields. The first technique is using an ultrasonic transmitter which continuously produces frequencies such at 40 kHz to distress the rodents (i.e., rats). The second technique has a voice playback system which generates sounds of cats, snakes etc., at regular intervals of time to frighten the rodents. The last technique is, with the help of a pair of passive infrared sensor (PIR) placed in and around the cage to detect the movement of the rodents. If a movement is detected by the PIR sensor 2 then the rodents is trapped inside the cage by closing the door automatically and simultaneously this information is sent to the monitoring unit and to the person in charge of food storage facility via GSM which displays the message “RODENT TRAPPED†in LCD and an alarm is triggered. Today, we are facing the problem of easily, effectively and efficiently handling very huge amount of sensitive data in order to do our daily routine work without any interruption or failure. Simply, we wants that data should be available to the user whenever it is required at any cost .The concept of replication came into existence just because of two facts that are availability and performance. Replication is used in both the fields, centralized databases and distributed databases. Replication (Database Replication) basically improves the availability of data by storing multiple copies of data at some other locations. These multiple copies of data are called replicas. It also improves performance by increasing throughput, by providing access to the data simultaneously to multiple computers (users) with the help of replicas and by facilitating the users to access nearby replicas unless and until there is some issue with it. Energy Stored Sensible Hybrid Solar Cooker for Day and Night Cooking
-Reshma Radhakrishnan ; Vimi K Wilson
The continuously increasing imbalance between the energy demand and supply together with increasing cost of the conventional energy resources as well as the growing environmental pollution are forcing the people to invent new methods either to reduce energy demands or to find alternate energy resources for the cooking purposes. A hybrid solar cooker with oil as heat storage medium is designed and fabricated. Engine oil with high thermal conductivity is chosen as the sensible heat storage medium for the fabricated solar cooker. The system has two cook tops and two cook tops are used during day time and the parabolic dish collector is used for heating the oil in the receiver tank placed at the focus point of the dish. The primary cook top is placed under the oil receiver tank and the food is cooked by the concentrated solar energy falling on it. The oil circulation is done automatically using a 12 V reciprocating pump. The circulation starts when the oil at the receiver reaches to 700C. The pump can be worked in manual and automatic mode. The heat which left after cooking is transferred to the oil in the storage tank through the copper pipe. Here the copper pipe acts as a heat exchanger. The stored thermal energy in the oil is used for evening cooking purposes. A DC heater plug which is charged by a DC battery is used to heat the coil during night times and also when there is less solar radiation. Thus the cooker can cook food during day and night without any interruption. The energy stored sensible hybrid solar cooker is cost effective and is portable to use. Read More...

Enhancing the QoS in WSN
-Yogesh N ; Jyothi N; Keshav N Kowshik; Meghashree B R; Ragini R
In recent years, the applications of the wireless sensors networks (WSN) have increased tremendously due to its huge potential of connecting the physical world and the virtual world. It is a trend to deploy large number of wireless portable sensors in the WSNs to have an increased quality of service (QoS). The QoS of WSNs is hugely affected by the failure of the sensor nodes. The portability of failures in sensor nodes is directly proportional to increase in the number of sensors. In order to keep up better QoS under failure conditions, identifying and removing such faults are important. In the proposed method, the faulty sensor nodes are detected by calculating the round trip delay (RTD) time of different round trip paths and comparing them with the threshold value and also some assumptions are made for the node to be faulty. Rerouting is performed using DFS and BFS algorithm. The scalability of this method is checked by simulating the WSNs with a large number of sensor nodes in Network Simulator 3 (ns-3). Read More...

Robots have always been an object of fascination in our society. They have been portrayed as humble servants of man as well as evil creations that rise to overthrow their masters. But where does this fascination come from? All robots share one thing in common at the root of their design and purpose they can perform tasks in place of humans. Life is filled with many repetitive tasks, and if robots are able to perform those tasks, they can help to ease an overarching burden. With that said, robots are optimal replacements for humans in a multitude of scenarios. As simple as it may seem, the primary action in many repetitive tasks is picking up objects and moving them to other locations. Be it picking up garbage from the floor, moving parts along an assembly line, or removing fallen debris, robots that can pick up and move objects will always be useful. This robot was designed as a fetching robot. It was to come with a set of objects (Garbage) that it was designed to detect and segregate into bio-degradable and non-biodegradable, and it would be able to collect these items from the environment when they were placed at random. Using an arm mechanism to lift the objects from the floor, it could then place the objects in a container. Read More...

-Prathamesh S. Patil ; Gaurav N. Argade; Akash T. Bhilare; Anubhav S. Pahade; Dr. Kishor B. Waghulde
In modern era, steer ability and handling characteristics of the vehicle have become major aspects. Providing comfort. To the driver by reducing steering effort without any compromise in steer ability and handling of the vehicle with ride comfort is a major Concern for automakers. Evaluating handling and steering characteristics of a vehicle in a virtual environment with the help of multi-body system packages saves product development time and cost. The main intention is to improve the steer ability and handling of the vehicle by avoiding the steering pull and wheel wandering problems for high speed cornering and straight-line stability. This paper discusses the dynamic effect of caster angle on the steering and suspension system. Automatic dynamics of mechanical system (MSC ADAMS) has become an important feature of roadside hardware design and analysis in recent year.so the analysis is carried out using the existing model in MSC ADAMS\CAR and editing the parameters as per standard car data. Using this model, maneuvers over standard track with initial speed of 100kmph for different values of caster angle at front wheel keeping the rear caster angle zero parameters, were simulated. The steering effort, steering wheel return ability and the lateral forces produced by the tires were obtained in order to predict the Behavior of the vehicle for different wheel geometry parameters. It can be seen from the results that positive caster angles improve the steering wheel return ability but increase the steering effort. Higher steering axle inclination (Sai) angles help in improving the steering wheel return ability and decreasing the steering effort as well. Negative camber angles help in producing higher lateral forces to improve the corner ability of the vehicle. Toe-in angles help in improving the straight-line stability whereas toe-out angles help in improving the cornering. Read More...

A mathematical modelling of a Stirling refrigerator is developed here. Regenerator is also analysed through mathematical modelling. In these modelling Beta type Stirling refrigerator is considered with air as the Working fluid and will be useful in optimizing the mechanical design of these machines. Two pistons cyclically compress and expand air while moving sinusoidal in same chamber connected by a regenerator, thus creating a temperature difference across the system. A complete non-linear mathematical model of the machine, including air Thermodynamics and heat transfer from the walls, as well as heat transfer and fluid Resistance in the regenerator is developed. Effect of air velocity on the air temperature at any position within the regenerator is studied. Read More...

Comparison and Design of Multi-Storied Building in all Seismic Zones
-Preeti Singh
In civil engineering structure seismic design of multi-storey building requires both static and dynamic analysis are perform. Static analysis is performed for regular buildings upto 90m height in zone II & III. Dynamic analysis is performed for both regular and irregular buildings in zone IV & V. Dynamic analysis is eighter performed by the “Time History Method†or “Response Spectrum Methodâ€. The weakness arises due to discontinuity in mass, stiffness and geometry of structure. Mass irregularity shall be considered to exist where the weight of any storey is more than 200% of that of its adjacent storeys. There is necessary to construct a structure which is earthquake resistance at a particular level of intensity of shaking a structure. Indian standard codes are used for design of various building elements or members. These elements are designed by using software STAAD Pro. And consider seismic load and wind load. For load combination use code IS 1893:2002. The project consists of G+10 buildings with same plan. Irregular building (T-shape) is compared in all four zones. All these buildings are designed with same height and plan with their respective ideas. The designing has been carried out in STAAD.Pro software (software that deals with analysing and designing of structures. The modelling and graphics of this software is more clear and perfect and easy to understand). All the G+10 building structure and modelled analysed and then designed for all four zones. Results are compared with respect to all zones. The base shear force, volume of concrete, weight of steel and cost effectiveness have been calculated to depict all the differences in structure behaviour when analysed in all four zones in STAAD.Pro software. -Ravinder Kumar ; Dr. Rajiv Yadav
Visible light communication (VLC) is becoming an alternative choice for next-generation wireless technology by offering low cost, unregulated bandwidth and ubiquitous infrastructures support. This technology is envisioned to be used in a wide range of applications both indoor as well as outdoor. Visible Light Communication (VLC) uses light emitting diodes (LEDs), for the dual role of illumination and data transmission. With this leading edge technology, data including video and audio, internet traffic etc. can be transmitted at high speeds using LED light. Using LEDs is helping to drive this technology in the form of Visible Light Communication (VLC). By enabling wireless communication among vehicles and also with the traffic infrastructure, the safety and efficiency of the transportation can be substantially increased. Considering the numerous advantages of the VLC technology encouraged the study of its appropriateness for the envisioned automotive applications, as an alternative and/or a complement for the traditional radio frequency based communications. In order to conduct this research, a low-cost VLC system for automotive application was developed. The proposed system aims to ensure a highly robust communication between a LED-based VLC emitter and an on-vehicle VLC receiver. Read More...

An Experimental Study on Steel Fibres Reinforced Self Compacting Concrete using Metakaolin as Partial Replacement of Cement
-Prof. Nadeem Pasha ; Sohail Ahmed Kharadi; Abrar Ali; Mohammad Furqan; Vijay
A Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a concrete that can flow and completely fill the formwork under its own particular weight, simultaneously maintain its homogeneity regardless of the fact that congested reinforcement is available and later accomplishes complete compaction without any need of external vibration (The Concrete Society and BRE, 2005). Due to this reason concrete is replaced by Metakaolin in various percentages of 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% with additional percentages of steel fibres as 0%, 1%, 2%, 3% and 4%, respectively. The size of cube specimen is 150×150 which is used for compression test. The size of cylinder specimen is 150mm diameter and 300mm height for tensile test. Standard prisms of size 100mm x 100mm x 500mm are tested under two point loading to study the flexural strength. The compression, tensile and flexure tests are conducted for the specimens. Automated Customized Cow Shed Cleaning Machine
-Gurucharan M Shinde ; Hemanth Kumar R; Hemanth Kumar S; Kiran P Naduvinamani; Uday M
The paper work is about the project that we are proposing to automate the process of cleaning the dairy farm with the press of a button. The fundamental reason as to why the concept has been chosen is the cost of the labor that is required to maintain the hygiene and the cleanliness of the cow shed. Places which are deep inside the rural belt also face the acute problem of labor shortage. The proposed model consists of a pair of guide ways which is a primary load carrying member. The rack and pinion mechanism helps in the movement of machine apparatuses along the length of the scaled down frame. Here the electric DC motor is mounted with a gear on top which drives the machine along the rack. The movement along the length of the cow shed is considered as x axis. Similarly the height of the apparatus is considered as Y axis. There are two support guide ways mounted to the bottom of the main frame machine. The brush assembly is made to move along the two guide ways with the help of a screw rod and gear drive mechanism. The screw rod set up is coupled to a controllable DC motor, where the motion of the motor can be controlled by the output of the limit switch. Read More...

Research on Cement Concrete by Partial Replacement of Coarse Aggregates with Steel Slag Aggregates and Cement with Rice Husk Ash
-M. V. Ramesh ; P. Mohana Gangaraju
Concrete is the third largest material consumed by human beings after food and water as per WHO (World Health Organization). Concrete plays a vital role in the design and construction of the nation’s infrastructure. Almost three quarters of the volume of concrete is composed of aggregates. These are obtained from natural rocks and river beds, thus degrading them slowly. This issue of environmental degradation, and need for aggregates demands for the usage of any other alternative source. Over 5% of global CO2emissions can be attributed to Portland cement production. Demand for cement continues to grow. The emissions caused by annual increases in production exceed gains to reduce emissions through manufacturing efficiencies and cleaner fuels. And also increase in the cost of conventional building materials and to provide a sustainable growth; the construction field has prompted the designers and developers to look for alternative materials for the possible use in civil engineering constructions. For this objective, the use of industrial waste products and agricultural by products are very constructive. These industrial wastes and agricultural by product such as Fly Ash, Rice Husk Ash, Silica Fume, and Slag etc can be used as cementing materials because of their pozzolanic behavior, which otherwise require large tracts of lands for dumping. Large amounts of wastes obtained as by products from many of the industries can be the main sources of such alternate materials. The world rice harvest is estimated at 588 million tons per year and India is second largest producer of rice in the world with annual production of 132 million tons per year. In the present investigation, a feasibility study is made to use Rice Husk Ash as an admixture to already replaced Cement with fly ash (Ordinary Portland Cement) in Concrete, and an attempt has been made to investigate the strength parameters of concrete. Steel slag is a by product of steel making processes of steel industry. It’s also one of the biggest industrial waste which is being produced worldwide in a huge quantity during the steel-making operations which utilize Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF). Steel slag can be used in the construction industry as aggregates in concrete by replacing natural aggregates. In this research coarse aggregate were partially replaced with steel slag with different replacement percentage in concrete i.e. 0%, 15%, 30%, 35%, 40% and 45% and cement was partially replaced with rice husk ash with different replacement percentages i.e. 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. In order to required workability and high strength concrete super plasticizers are used. This paper gives the behavior of concrete under flexure, tension and compression under natural loads. In this investigation I considered steel slag aggregates and rice husk ash separately and collectively. Read More...

Experimental Analysis of Bacterial Concrete
-D. Hanumantharao Naik ; Y. Anjaiah
Concrete is the predominate material used in the structural engineering stream. Concrete is widely adopted in huge structures (commonly used in buildings). It is known for its durability, ductility and resistance towards the external loads. If water droplets enter into the concrete structure due to lack of permeability then it can damage the steel reinforcement present in the concrete member .when this phenomenon occurs, the strength of the concrete decreases and which results in the decay of structure. To prevent these phenomenon bacteria was introduce in concrete. Now a day’s calcium lactate powder has been used along with bacteria in concrete which results in the formations of calcium carbonate crystals. These crystals look like precipitate chain which locks the minute cracks and also the pores in the concrete. Cracks are the major reason for the reduction of strength and permeability in the concrete. Therefore a novel technique has been developed by using a selective microbial plugging process, in which microbial metabolic activities promote calcium carbonate (cacite) precipitation, this technique is referred as microbiologically enhanced crack remediation . In this technique bacillus subtil us bacteria are used hence the concrete is called bacterial concrete. The percentages of bacteria selected for the study are 3.5% and 5% by weight of cement in addition , calcium lactate was used at 5% and 10% replacement of cement by weigh .test conducted as compresive strength. The following conclusions are reported from the experimental work carried out and from the results obtained from compressive strength and self healing capacities of casted specimens. The optimum compressive strength of bacterial concrete is obtained at 15gm of bacteria and 5% of calcium lactate. It is observed that the compressive strength of bacterial concrete is more than that of the conventional concrete. By using the bacteria we can decreases the maintenance cost of construction and helps in self healing. The total cost of the project is increased at the stage of construction and after that there is a decrease in the maintenance cost. Read More...

Strength Evaluation of Concrete by Partial Replacement of Coarse Aggregate and Fine Aggregate Instead of Crushed Tiles and Granite Powder in Different Curing Conditions
-J.S.Nagachaithanya ; M.Vijayalakshmi Prasanna
Due to the day by day innovations and development in construction field, the use of natural aggregates is very high and at the same time production of solid wastes from the demolitions of constructions is also very high. Because of these reasons the reuse of demolished constructional wastes and granite powder came into the picture to reduce the solid waste and to reduce the scarcity of natural aggregates. Crushed waste tiles and Granite powder are used as a replacement to the coarse aggregates and fine aggregate. The combustion of waste crushed tiles were replaced in place of coarse aggregates by 10%, 20%, 30% and Granite powder were replaced in place of fine aggregate by 10%, 20%, 30% without changing the mix design. M30 grade of concrete was designed to prepare the conventional mix. Without changing the mix design different types of mixes were prepared by replacing the coarse aggregates and fine aggregate at different percentages of crushed tiles and granite powder. Experimental investigation like slump test and Compressive strength test, Ultrasonic pulse velocity test for different concrete mixes with different percentages of waste crushed and granite powder after 7,28 and 90 days in different curing conditions like normal water curing and accelerated curing tank.
