Enhancement of Performance of the Intercooler Used in Two Stage Reciprocating Air Compressor
-S. Venkatesan ; S. Malarmannan; K. Anandavelu
An air compressor is a device that converts mechanical energy into pressure energy. Usually mechanical energy applied from an electric motor, a diesel engine or a petrol engine. Air from atmosphere enters into the compressor. It is compressed to a high pressure. Then, this high pressure air is delivered to a storage tank. (Vessel or reservoir). From the storage tank, it can be sent to any desired place for any purpose through pipe lines. In a multi stage air compressor, compression of air takes place in more than one cylinder. Almost all the multistage compressor applications, air will be cooled between the stages which are also known as inter cooling. The intercooling is possible to the intercooler. An intercooler is a heat exchanger. It exchanges the heat of compressed air from the LP compressor to the circulating water before the air enters the HP compressor. Inter cooling of a compressor is necessary for an efficient process. With inter cooling, the compressor is more closely to an isothermal compression with resulting lower power requirement. In the present work, the different type of low cost cooling medium and additives are used to enhance the performance of the intercooler (shell and tube) in two stage reciprocating air compressor. Form this process the volumetric efficiency of the compressor is increased and work requirement lowered when compared with the existing one. In this process ,the main objectives was to find a viable solution to reducing the temperature of the compressed air in to the two stage reciprocating compressor by using a low cost cooling medium and additives in the existing intercooler. The proposed idea was to enhance the performance of the intercooler used in two stage reciprocating air compressor. During this experiment, a makeup of proposed cooling medium was used utilizing real world conditions get data for validating the possibility of proposed cooling medium. Read More...

Speed Control of Induction Motor
-Jagat Narayan Sharma ; Prof. Hemant Amhiya
Induction motors are the most widely used electrical motors due to their reliability, low cost and robustness. However, induction motors do not inherently have the capability of variable speed operation. Due to this reason, earlier dc motors were applied in most of the electrical drives. But the recent developments in speed control methods of the induction motor have led to their large scale use in almost all electrical drives. Out of the several methods of speed control of an induction such as pole changing, frequency variation, variable rotor resistance, variable stator voltage, constant V/f control, slip recovery method etc., the closed loop constant V/f speed control method is most widely used. This is review paper with literature of different authors. Read More...

Web Based Automated Fuel Measurement System for Vehicle's
-Ramesh Thorat ; Shubhada Pophale; Mr. Sharad Jagtap
Now days Petrol pump frauds were very common. Many of the petrol pumps today tempers pumps such that it displays the amount as entered, but in reality, the inlet of fuel filled in the consumer's tank is much lesser than the displayed value. The pumps are cheating for the profit of the petrol pump owner. This results in great profits for the petrol pumps, but at the same time the customers are being cheated. Most of the two wheelers' in India consist analog meters which will not give the exact amount of fuel currently in the vehicle and also it is not possible to verify the quantity of fuel filled at the petrol pump. Also, in this modern and progressive world, products are being digitized for its benefits and user friendliness. So, we are developing a project named "Web Based Automated Fuel Measurement for Vehicle". Read More...

Parametric Study of High Rise Building Structure with Respect to Positioning of Shear Wall
-Mohammad Sadique Ameen
High rise buildings are becoming need of today‘s situation with the population increasing day by day. A trend to high rise building is being seen in the developing cities of India to meet the housing demand. The buildings and infrastructures are necessary for the development and day-to-day activities of human beings. The loss of lives observed during earthquakes is directly related to the number of damaged and collapsed buildings during the event. The buildings become more and more susceptible to the earthquake loads with increase in height. Earthquake load can develop high stresses, produce sway movement or even may cause vibration in the structure. Thus, it is very much important for the structure to have enough strength against vertical loads collectively with satisfactory stiffness to resist earthquake load. Shear walls are among the most common lateral load resisting systems. The usefulness of the shear walls in the structural planning of the multistory buildings has long been recognized. But there are many factors such as placement of shear walls, its length, its thickness, aspect ratio, plan of the building which affects the response of the building towards lateral loads. In the present study an attempt is made to study the effect of the position of shear walls on bending moment, shear force, axial force and torsional force. Also the effect on storey drift, storey displacement and base shear is studied by changing the shear wall position. The complete study is carried out for zone II as per IS 1893 (part 1):2002, considering primary loads (dead, live and seismic loads) and their combinations with proper load factor using Staad-Pro. Thermal Analysis of Zigzag Ply Heat Sink
-Kasinathan. R ; Manivannan D; Anandavel K
Heat sinks are one of the most popular cooling systems. Also, they are one of the simplest devices for dissipating heat from components and electronic systems. The development of electronics is nowadays inextricably linked to the development of materials for heat sinks, heat sink design and production methods. Heat sinks can be produced by a number of methods depending on their use. Thermal resistance is the key parameter when deciding on the use of a radiator. A value of this parameter is affected by many factors, including surface area of a radiator, radiator shape, colour of the surface, air flow and heat sink temperature In this work, a new concept for cooling the electronic components using the copper-base zigzag ply heat sink is proposed. The thermal performance and temperature distribution for the heat sink were analyzed and a procedure for optimizing the geometrical design parameter is presented. A three-dimensional model is developed to investigate flow and conjugate heat transfer in the copper-base zigzag ply heat sink. The model was produced with the commercial program ANSYS. The theoretical model developed is validated by comparing the predictions of the model with available experimental data. Different types of cooling methods are analyzed to show the reliability and effectiveness in heat spreading of those. This report will also describe a modeling methodology that can be used to predict performance, with comparison to experimental. Read More...

Calculation of Cut and Fill of Earthworks with Quantum-GIS
-Lalit R. Chamat ; Anupriya
The work of cut and fill is the first step in any earthworks. So it is very necessary for any contractor to carry this work with full precautions and complete the work without any errors in the calculation. The road works or the drainage constructions are very important constructions as it shows the economy of a country. It beautifies the surrounding of a place. If the construction of such structures is done properly then it may lead to severe accidents and other major losses may occur. It is necessary for all the earthwork contractors to calculate the proper and accurate estimate of earthwork. If the estimate of earthwork done by contractor is not accurate then he will be unable to assign the proper construction assets he cannot formulate a project schedule as well. There are many unknowns and assumptions required in estimating the earthwork construction. And this is the reason that while doing this task the contractor is at greatest risk. The Project of river interlinking need lots of information. The selection of paths through which two rivers should be interlinked is very cumbersome and time consuming. But the same process will take very less time if it is done with the help of GIS in the software Quantum-GIS. The major problem in interlinking of two rivers comes when the proper path is to be selected. Less the undulations, more will be the suitability of the path. But if there is some suitable path with more undulations then the construction work is increased. By construction we mean the work of cut and fill. This cut and fill must be done in appropriate manner so as to make the project successful. Quantum-GIS help in calculating the total cut and fill through certain formula. In this paper we will be discussing the analytical solution of cut and fill through Quantum-GIS. The same procedure can be done while doing road work or drainage work. The software reduces some amount of manual work and hence time is saved. Read More...

Elasto-Plastic Analysis of Clamped Circular Plates with Central Circular Holes using HOSDT for Different Radius to Thickness Ratios
-Gaurav Tiwari
The present study is implementation of a finite element formulation for elasto-plastic analysis of clamped circular plates by using higher-order shear deformation theory. In this formulation variation of transverse shear strain is taken into account for incremental elasto-plastic plate bending analysis. Parametric studies over clamped circular plates with and without circular holes having different radius to thickness ratios, holes sizes etc. was conducted. The thickness of plate doesn't affect the normalised collapse load which endorses the correctness of normalisation parameter chosen. However a little increase in normalised collapse load was observed in case of thin plates. This may be due to stretching effect which comes into play along-with bending in case of thin plates while only bending effect is seen in case of thick plates. Read More...

This paper presents autonomous accident prevention with security enabling techniques, accident detection system and emergency services .The main objective is to design an Arduino Nano controller to process the input from sensors which can run on an embedded system and to automatically locate the accident spot using GPS and alert concerned people like ambulance or hospital. It should be done automatically as the person involved in the accident may not be in a situation to send the information .The proposed system is composed of two separate design units: prevention unit and detection unit. Prevention unit consists of an ultrasonic sensor which detects nearby vehicles and alerts the driver using buzzer. Accident detection system comprises of a vibration sensor which senses the vibration. When the vibration is above the threshold, the accident is detected and it sends the notification to the relatives about the accident. When travelling starts, first the fingerprints of the passengers are scanned using the Fingerprint Scanner. As the collision occurs, vibration sensor will sense the vibration and will send it to the Arduino Nano microcontroller. Then, using GPS service available in the smart phone the location of the accident spot will be send to ambulance services, which in turn will select the hospital from the list and will inform the hospital about the details of the patient. Earthquake Resistance Building with Base Isolation
-Neelesh Yadav ; Ravi Yadav; Pranjal Yadav
The concept and theory of base isolation system are widely accepted at the present. To accomplish the predicted behaviours of the base-isolated buildings, the design for base isolation system is regarded as the dominant factor of the success of isolated buildings. Although the base isolation design can be fulfilled using Uniform Building Code 1997, conceptual design is yet necessarily analyzing to achieve the optimal and effective values of design. The conceptual design and preliminary design are discussed through analyzing a 100 year-old historical building, Mitchell Hall in Istanbul, Turkey. During the procedure of design, many issues were raised given that the performance of the isolated building is dependent on the properties of buildings, the isolators and the scale of excitations. Therefore, torsion effect, P-6 effect and finally, the performance of base- isolated buildings subjected to extreme loads and service loads are investigated. Specifically, the implementations of active control system and semi-active control system are studied. The results show that the new devices can highly reduce the response of the building under service loads. Read More...

Face Atlas Construction and Spatial Representation for Dynamic Expression Recognition
-R. Jefrin Infant Sindhya ; S. C. Muthu Ramya
Dynamic facial expression recognition is subject-specific. It varies from person to person and cannot be estimated with a thresholding technique. Facial movements of different expressions are described by a diffeomorphic growth model. Salient longitudinal facial expression atlas is built for each expression by a sparse group wise image registration method, which can describe the overall facial feature changes among the whole population and can suppress the bias due to large inter-subject facial variations. The image appearance information in spatial domain and topological evolution information in temporal domain are used to guide recognition by a sparse representation method. One limitation of the proposed method is that it is still not robust enough to overcome challenges of strong illumination changes. The main reason is that the LDDMM registration algorithm do not support strong illumination changes. Read More...

Analysis on Single Slope, Single Basin Solar Still with Insulation, Reflector and Fins
-Prof. Bhavin H. Khatri ; Harsh Soni; Jay Shah; Kevin Shah; Darshil Panchal
The purpose of this project is to design a water desalination system that can purify water from near, any source. A system that is relatively cheap, portable and depends only on renewable solar energy. The motivation for this analysis is the limited availability of clean water resources and the abundance of impure water available for potential conversion into potable water. In addition there are many coastal locations where seawater is abundant but potable water is not available. Our project goal is to efficiently produce clean drinkable water from solar energy conversion. Distillation is one of many processes that can be used for water purification. This requires an energy input as heat. Electricity and solar radiation can be the source of energy. When solar energy is used for this purpose, it is known as Solar Water Distillation. Solar Distillation is an attractive process to produce portable water using free of cost solar energy. This energy is used directly for evaporating water inside a device usually termed as a 'Solar Still'. Solar stills are used in places where water through rain, irrigation channels or well is not viable, such as in remote areas or during power outages. Solar Distillation is an attractive alternative because of its simple technology, easy maintenance and low energy consumption. The use of solar thermal energy in seawater desalination applications has so far been restricted to small-scale systems in rural areas. However, the coming shortage in fossil fuel supply and the growing need for fresh water in order to support increasing water and irrigation needs have further motivated development of water desalination and purification systems by renewable energies. Earthquake Analysis by Providing Outriggers with Belt Truss System to Buildings
-S.Harsha ; M.S.Anantha Venkatesh
The detailed study is to understand structural behavior of the high rise building with lateral load resisting system under seismic loading is essential for appropriate design and their better performance. In high rise buildings the lateral loads are major concern like earthquake or wind. These are resisted by introducing a system of coupled shear walls and bracings in the structure. But in very tall buildings this lateral stiffness is not enough to resist the lateral loads and hence the introduction of the outrigger beams between the shear walls and external columns is the only solution to provide sufficient lateral stiffness to the structure. The outrigger is commonly used as one of the structural system to effectively control the excessive drift due to lateral load, so that, during small or medium lateral load due to either wind or earthquake load, the risk of structural and non-structural damage can be minimized. For high-rise buildings, particularly in seismic active zone or wind load dominant zone, this system can be chosen as an appropriate structure. The objective of this thesis is to study the outrigger location optimization and the efficiency of each outrigger which is used in the structure. In 60−storey three dimensional models of outrigger with belt truss system is subjected to earthquake load are analyzed and find the natural time period, frequency, base shear, storey drift, lateral displacement reduction related to the outrigger and belt truss system location. The modular analysis for outrigger with belt truss system has been carried out as the thesis. Read More...

An Experimental Investigation of Natural Convection Heat Transfer from Various Shapes of Perforated Fin Array at Different Inclinations
-Sagar B. Lagare ; S. R. Patil
Heat transfer enhancement is the major research area in which many researchers are working to fulfil the need of equipments which are capable to provided high heat transfer density. The removal of excessive heat from system components is essential to avoid the damaging effects of burning or overheating. Therefore, the enhancement of heat transfer is an import subject of thermal engineering. The heat transfer from surfaces may in general be enhanced by increasing the heat transfer coefficient between a surface and its surroundings, by increasing the heat transfer area of the surface, or by both. In most cases, the area of heat transfer increased by utilizing extended surfaces in the form of fins attached to walls and surfaces. Extended surfaces frequently used in heat exchanging devices for the purpose of increasing the heat transfer between a primary surface and the surrounding fluid. In last few decades, energy crises have created need of usage of higher efficient heat exchanging devices. A lot of research work in this area of heat transfer has already done and still in process by various researchers. This topic of heat transfer enhancement has acquired position of special branch of heat transfer. Increasing heat transfer coefficient by changing surface geometries, so that thermal and hydrodynamic boundary layer is avoided. Now the time has come to standardize the heat transfer enhancement techniques. Increasing the roughness of heat transfer surface area will increase the heat transfer rate but also increase the pressure drop across the section which increases the pumping power. Fins are commonly applied for heat management in electrical appliances, such as computer power supplies or substation transformers and other applications include IC engine cooling, Fins in Automobile radiator. Extensions on the finned surfaces is used to increases the surface area of the fin. When the surface area increase the more fluid contact to increase the rate of heat transfers from the base surface as compare to fin without the extensions provided to it. The concept of heat transfer through perforated in fin array also one of the method to improve the heat transfer character. Read More...
