Railway Track Fault Detection System
-Akshaykumar Kulkarni ; Vrushab Pandhare; Aniket Chougule; Manoj Pachore; Prof. Mrs. P. S. Shetgar
Today, India has possesses the fourth largest railway network in the world. In India, most of the commercial transport is transfer by the railway network from one place to another network and therefore, any problems occur in the same has the capacity to create major damage to the economy. However, in terms of the reliability and safety parameters, we have not provided protection to the traction system. The main problem occurs in the railway track is detection of cracks in the structure. If these deficiencies are not managing or protect at early stages they might lead to a number of derailments resulting in a heavy loss of life and railway property. This project proposes a cost effective solution to the problem of crack detection of rail track utilizing IR sensors which detect the exact location of faulty tracks which then system operated immediately so that many lives will be saved and avoid the railway accident This project is implementation of with LPC2148 microcontroller using GSM module and GPS receiver. Here IR sensors are used to found the crack in the track, whenever crack is detected GPS receiver receives the location information. This information of the crack detecting is send to the railway authority by using GSM system. Read More...

Dynamic Highway
-Devesh Mani Pandey ; Amit Kumar Soni; Divya Pandey; Shalini Lodhi; Dharmendra Kumar Yadav
We introduce a dynamic technique for fast route planning in large road networks. For the first time it is possible to handle the practically relevant scenario that arises in the present day road system. When the edge weight changes (e.g. due to traffic jam and collision of vehicle), we can move the road to overcome from the situation of jamming and accidents. We can move the side lane for 10 to 15 minutes for the passage of vehicles from backward and then density of jamming will decrease, movement of vehicle will be normal. It is expensive than traditional road but other problem like multi car pile-up, jamming, air pollution, wastes of fuels and other factors like noise pollution and most importantly traffic delay will be solved. It is based on advanced mechanical technology by which we move our side lanes for the ease of vehicle. The side lanes further use as pedestrian or cycle track. It will be technical and very efficient road network. Read More...

-Shruti Umesh Mestry ; Latika Kesarinath Vartak; Aarti Vaman Wadekar; Sonali Bodekar
Flex Watch: an interaction technique that uses continuous movements of fingers for one-handed operation on smartwatches When observing the collective range-of-motions of the wrist along each of its axes of movement, the hand can be viewed as a natural joystick. There is a smartwatch which is available in the market with proximity sensors but, disadvantage of that smartwatch is, we can’t use proximity sensors in high temperatures. To validate the use of Flex Watch in different application scenarios, we implemented a Hand Glove with smartwatch having flex sensors in it. The sensors detect the wrists joystick-like motion by sensing the degree of exion/extension and ulnar/radial deviation of the wrist motion as well as motion of fingers. Smartwatches which are available in the market that we have to interact with both hands, this paper introducing the new input style that is the Fingers as a joystick by which we can interact with that smartwatches using one hand. Utilization of Mesquite Wood Ash in Construction Industry
-Dr. M V Molykutty ; Krubha Shree. C; Pavithra. B; Shebaani. G. V; Yashika. A. K
The construction industry is one of the bedrocks of our economy which has made impressive progress since reinforced concrete was introduced as a structural material. In today's world the main emphasis is on green and sustainable development. Cement industry is one of the major contributors to pollution by releasing carbon-di-oxide. Mesquite plant (locally known as karuvelam maram) whose binomial name is Prosopis juliflora provides approximately 75% of fuel wood needs of rural people in arid and semi-arid regions of India. It is fast growing, nitrogen-fixing and tolerant to arid conditions & saline soils. It has spread over the greater part of north-west, central, west and south India there by becoming an aggressive invader species. It replaces native vegetation and takes over several acres of land. But its major disadvantage is that with deep penetrating roots, it draws water from deeper layers which lower the ground water table. To overcome this problem, the removal of the plant has become indispensable which is done by uprooting and is then burnt. The construction industry is one of the areas where the safe use of this waste ash (mesquite ash) is possible. So, by partially replacing cement with ash of mesquite, it can serve the demands of construction industry and at the same time save the scarcity of water resources. This project involves the study of performance of concrete having mesquite ash partially replaced with cement. M25 grade of concrete is selected and IS method is used for mix design. The replacement of cement is done in various proportions such as 5%, 7.5%, 10%. The strength characteristics of concrete after 7 and 28 days of curing are studied and found to give better performance compared to conventional mix with 7.5% replacement showing optimal performance. -Mahadev Jharbade ; Prof. Arun Kumar Bhuneriya; Asst. Prof. Rajesh Barange; Asst. Prof. Vikas Malviya; Asst. Prof. Sandeep Karole
In present highly competitive age, every manufacturing organization needs to improve its productivity to make profit. Productivity improvement depends on the manufacturing performance of the organization which is the function of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) which can be maximized by optimizing three parameters availability, performance and quality through minimizing industrial waste (six big losses). Optimization of above three parameters can be achieved through better maintenance practice by the manufacturing organization that requires a tool/technique to do same. It has been found that Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is one of the effective tool/technique which is aimed to maximize the OEE by optimizing three parameters through reducing the industrial waste. TPM is a resource emphasized maintenance approach possesses the philosophy of "continuous improvement", which may be successfully executed with total employee involvement and the management resolution for continuous practice of TPM. In the present research a case study is pursued in a medium scale manufacturing organization "Arvee Enterprises, Govindpura, Industrial area, Bhopal" with the objective to implement the TPM and evaluating its effects on OEE of plant and OEE of lathe machine and drill machine. Results of study indicate that significant enhancement in the OEE of plant and machines could be achieved by implementing TPM in organization. Read More...

Cyber Space - A Tool of Sexual Harassment
-K. Shanthi
The present era is marked by two things: heavy reliance on technology and virtual space. But behind the interfusion of these two there exists a world of potent threat and risks. These threats and risks are very much latent in nature and mostly the one committing it or the one upon whom it is committed are extremely difficult to be identified. In a Dynamic Technological Era, the whole world is in fingertips of the individual in second's time through the cyber medium popularly known as NET (Internet). Besides having one of the largest numbers of Internet users in the world, India also has some of the highest statistics of sexual harassment globally. Harassment that women face 'offline' - on the streets, at home, or even at the workplace, is now being directed online as well. Although there are various laws that are made for protection of women even in work place but due to lack of proper implementation and interpretation of law, it has not been quite effective in protecting women. This Paper explores gendered dimensions of cybercrimes like adult bullying, cyber stalking, hacking, defamation, morphed pornographic images, and electronic blackmailing designed to inflict intimidation, control, and other harms are frequently committed by perpetrators who, for many reasons, are unlikely to be identified or punished. This paper tries to highlight the condition of women of cyber victimization and tries to identify the legal safeguards available to women against cyber crimes. Read More...

-Biradar Praveen ; Mrs. Smitha; Ms. Shubha D K
The world is now growing rapidly in terms of construction industry. The reason is due to the rapid construction. A small attempt is made in our present project to assist this rapid construction by producing a lightweight self-compacting concrete. We have replaced coarse aggregate in terms of light weight aggregate (cinder) as partial replacement in concrete and also included two kinds of concrete i.e., light weight concrete and self-compacting concrete. The main aim is to reduce the self-weight of concrete and voids in concrete. From the results of the project we found that the replacement at 30% and 40% we found better strength and weight reduces up to 10% to 15% by compering to normal concrete the strength of light weight self-compacting concrete at 30% replacement 42.67N/mm2 and 39.11N/mm2 and weight 8.1kgs and 8kgs respectively. Hence it can be used for construction purpose and precast industries at moderate cost and effective result. Read More...

-Sanket Dhokchaule ; Prasad More; Akshay Waghmare; Sanket Shinde; Prof. Ganesh Kadam
The main aim of this project is to analyse the transmissibility at various speeds and load with minimum possible errors. The study of the motion of deformation of mechanical system is a "Mechanical Vibration". If motion of such system repeats itself after a given interval of time, the motion is known as "vibration" or in other words vibration are the fluctuation of mechanical system about equilibrium position. To find the transmissibility of the shock absorber, we will made the shock absorber test rig in which we will used scotch-yoke mechanism for remove the jump phenomenon. Shock absorber is an example of under damped vibration. Here, we will use the scotch-yoke mechanism where motion is transmitted from motor shaft to the shock absorber through the disc. Eccentricity is given to the disc and rotor motion of motor shaft is converted into linear motion of shock absorber. By plotting the graphs at various speeds, we will conclude their effect on the damping properties. Read More...

A PQ Improved Two-Mode Control Scheme for for Two-Switch Two-Switch Buck-Boost DC-DC Converter
-Harshita Saxena ; Shikha Singh
The usage of power electronic systems has expanded to new and wide application range. In recent years, the use of Buck-Boost converters are more when compared to other type of converters. When compared with the basic converters like Cuk, Zeta, two-switch Buck-Boost converter (TSBBC) presents less voltage losses on the switches. The two-switch buck boost converter is suitable for wide input voltage applications. The two switch buck boost converter requires fewer passive components. In order to achieve high efficiency over the entire input voltage range, the TSBBC operated in buck mode at high input voltage and boost mode at low input voltage. Such operation is called two mode control scheme. The objective of this paper is to reduce the influence of the input voltage disturbance on the output voltage by implementing two-mode control scheme and obtain enhanced efficiency with low harmonic distortion. The TSBBCs have been extensively used in telecommunications, battery operated vehicles, etc. with wide input voltage range. So it is thus important to improve the efficiency of TSBBC over a high input voltage range. Read More...

-Uttam. U. Deshpande ; Santosh Odeyar; Nizamuddin Loni; Mahantesh Shivannanavar; Basavaraj Muddanavar
Fingerprints are the most widely used proofs for identifying the individual. fingerprint evidence is undoubtedly the most reliable and acceptable evidence till date in the court of law. Fingerprints are obtained at the site of crime and in many old monuments and in excavated things. In this work, we used human fingerprints as an evidence to determine the human age. Estimating the age of the fingerprints is an emerging field and many methods using the fingerprint physical features like the ridge count and the ridge thickness have been used so far. Due to the limitless potential of fingerprints as an effective method of identification an attempt has been made in the present work to analyze their correlation with age of an individual using frequency domain technique and a pattern recognition technique. Encouraged by the fact that human fingerprint differs in width ranging from birth to middle age but patterns remain unchanged. The combined processing has provided better results. This paper aims in using 2D- Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) combined to estimate a person’s age using an obtained fingerprint. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used as a classifier. The obtained fingerprint image goes through two steps of feature extraction process and results in separate feature vectors which are then combined to produce a final future vector. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) was used as a classifier. 120 Fingerprints belonging to the various ages in between 1 –60 were taken for analysis. The experimental results show good for trained database. It was found that increasing the database population in each category improves the performance of the system. This method can be useful in crime investigations to reduce the search space of suspects. Read More...

An Experimental Investigation of High Volume Fly Ash Concrete
-J. Ashok Kumar ; K. Sita Hemanth
Fly ash a byproduct of the coal fired power plants is regarded as a good pozzolanic material making it an eligible material to be used as partial replacement in ordinary Portland cement concretes. In normal RCC construction the usage of fly ash is limited to 10-25% of weight of ordinary Portland cement. This type of cement is known as Portland pozzolona cement or blended cement. Usually, this amount has a beneect on the workability and cost economy of concrete but it may not be enough to sufficiently improve the durability to sulphate attack, alkali-silica expansion, and thermal cracking. But a concrete to be classified as High Volume Fly Ash Concrete and to take care of sulphate attack and to improve durability of structure, shall have fly ash content about 50% of the total binder content. The intent of this project is to develop different mixes with varying fly ash content and to study to their properties. The objective of the present investigation is HVFAC to the Indian context using Indian materials. The specific goal of the project is to determine the optimum fly ash content in concretes made with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland-Pozzolona Cement (PPC) designed to meet the requirements of concrete grades M20, M40. Automated Toll Collection per Kilometer in Toll Plaza
-Prajval Kumar C ; Archana B C; Nikhil K; Girish M
Today, due to the increase in the vehicles, there is a lot of gathering of the traffic at the toll booths. The main reason for this traffic at the toll booths is due to the manual working of the toll tax collection at the booths. Each vehicle in an average needs to stop at the toll booth for about a minute for the payment of the toll tax. In order to decrease this traffic, we decided to work on the construction of a project which reduces the manual work and hence increases the vehicle speed passing by the toll booth. Also, people pay taxes till next toll booth, but they will not travel till there they take a diversion in between, to avoid the loss of money which they had not travelled. We decide to pay for the kilometer the vehicle has been travelled. Read More...

In pressure vessels, nozzles are attached for various purposes, marking a nozzle cut out on pressure vessel is very difficult operation. The objective of the paper is to optimize the diameter of set in nozzle for a pressure vessel. Geometrical parameters of nozzle are considered while marking a cut out on shell. However nozzles are placed on the circumferences of pressure vessel which disturbs the symmetry of the vessel, attachment of nozzle causes eccentricity. For simplicity of operation, adjustable trammel tool is used for marking a profile although this method reduces effort for marking which in turn helps in saving operation time. By this apparatus the total operational cost is inversely affected. Read More...

Design and Implementation of High Speed and Low Power Wallace Multiplier
-Mr. Bharat H. Nagpara ; Mr. S. D. Madhar
8x8 bit Multiplier architecture based on Wallace Tree, which is efficient in terms of power and regularity without increase in delay and area. The idea involves the generation of partial products in parallel using AND gates. The addition of partial products is done using Wallace tree, which is hierarchal, divided into levels. There will be a reduction in the power consumption, since power is provided only to the level that is involved in computation. The proposed 8x8-bit Wallace tree Multiplier has been designed using proposed compressors and the power consumption results are low and also less delay has been observed. The proposed Wallace tree Multiplier using these compressors achieves significant amount of less power than conventional Wallace tree Multiplier. The designs are implemented and power results are obtained using TANNER EDA 15.0 v tool. Read More...

Investigation on Thermal Properties of Natural Composites for Thermal Insulation
-Waghamare Dnyaneshvar Subhash ; Prof. Ganamatayya Hikkimath; Jadhav Akshay; Pandit Ameya; Gophan Shubham
The environmental issues are gaining an increasing interest worldwide. The world’s population is much more aware of the importance of sustainability and the need for a proper conduct to protect the environment .The evaluation of thermal properties of new materials is quite important. For several of their engineering applications in microscopic or macroscopic structures for instance, we need to know how they are able to dissipate heat. This is because natural fiber composites have low weight, density, and cost. They have low zero toxin rating easy to reuse and dispose with significant health benefits. This work investigates the thermal insulation properties of agricultural waste made into composites. The same is true for those systems suitable for the recover or storage of energy. Besides this necessity of measuring the thermal properties of new component materials, the study and development of relevant experimental methods is quite important for researchers and students of engineering too. Here then, we propose a method that allows the students to have an experimental approach to the problem of thermal transport. Read More...

Design and Thermal Analysis of Cylinder Fins with and without Extensions by using Different Materials
-Ankit Karmakar ; Ranu Rajoria
An IC Engine releases heat to the surrounding through the mode of convection, to facilitate this. Fins are provides a means by which heat transfer rate can be improved. Heat transfer rate depends on Fin Geometry, Fin materials and Velocity of automobile vehicle. The main aim of the project is to study the cylinder fin and analyse the thermal performance by varying geometry and material. Models of cylinder with fin have been developed to predict the steady state thermal behavior. The analysis is done using Ansys 19.0 Present used material for internal core is grey cast iron and fin body with aluminum alloy. We are replacing with Grey cast iron, Aluminum alloy and copper alloy separately for entire body. The shape of the fin is rectangular; we have changed the shape with round shaped at the corner of fin. In this research paper, the heat transfer performance is analysed by design and modification of fin geometry. The heat transfer performance of fin without extension and with extension is compared using different materials. Read More...

-U. A. C. Perera ; R. A. C. J. Seneviratne; A. S. S. Niyomal
This study is aimed at assessing the impact of pedestrians' behaviour and existing sidewalk facilities on Level of Service (LOS) for pedestrians in urban suburbs of Sri Lanka. For this study, two urban suburbs, Kaduwela and Athurugiriya junctions were selected. They are considered to be two main suburbs in Colombo district. During this study, sidewalks in six road links in these two city centers associated with roads AB4, AB10, B174 and B240 were selected to determine Level of Service (LOS) for pedestrians based on existing sidewalk facilities and pedestrians’ behaviour. Thus, data such as pedestrian count and walking speeds, vehicular flowrate, walkway space and width, roadway condition and etc. were collected on weekdays and weekends for a period of one month prior to data analysis. Collected data was analyzed based on the methodology proposed in the Highway capacity manual to determine the existing Level of Service which is dependent on Pedestrian flow rate, vehicular flow rate, average speed and sidewalk space for selected road links. This study demonstrates that from the selected six road links, two in Athurugiriya and one from Kaduwela were classified under LOS standard of A, one road link from Kaduwela city center was classified as LOS standard of B. while, one each from both city centers were classified under LOS standard of D. Hence, recommendations were discussed to enhance sidewalk, provide sidewalk safety fences and prohibit unauthorized settlements in sidewalk for improving Level of Service (LOS) for pedestrians using sidewalks in urban suburbs of Sri Lanka. A Detail Analytical Study on Ground Response Analysis of Subgrade Soil under a Flexible Pavement
-Raja Saha ; Somedeb Saha; Rajib Guin
In Barasat, a long stretch of road exists between Champadali more and Kazipara more on which heavy traffic moves. Due to the previous mild earthquake in West Bengal, the road stretch under consideration experienced a mild ground response due to which some cracks developed resulting in the blockage of the normal traffic. Earthquake shake is the most significant and universally encountered problems in geotechnical earthquake engineering. Correspondingly, the aim is the evaluation of ground response or ground shake response. In this project a detail analytical study on ground response analysis of subgrade soil under a flexible pavement stretch between Champadali and Kazipara is elaborately discussed. Ground response analysis is used to predict site natural periods, assess ground motion amplification, provides ground motions for development of design response spectra, evaluate potential for liquefaction, and to determine the forces induced due to an earthquake which can lead to instability of earth and earth slopes. To estimate the ground response of soil one shall have correct soil model which represent its dynamic properties. For this purpose, field tests (SPT, Seismic down hole tests) and laboratory tests (cyclic triaxial test) will be carried out for soil sites from Barasat. Also 3D analysis is being done for the analysis. Using the laboratory and field test results, it is proposed to develop a model for dynamic deformation characteristics. Some case studies are being given here. The model proposed will be validated by applying recorded time history of bedrock and compares its free field response with the recorded free field time history. Also liquefaction assessment will be carried out using the site characteristics data and site response study results. The effects of soil strain, terrain properties, water table and earthquakes on Peak ground motion will be studied. Read More...

Mental Narratives in Architecture
-Ishita Jindal
G.K.Chesterton, an illustrated English fiction writer, once quoted- "There are no rules of architecture for a castle in the clouds". (The Everlasting Man, 1925) Fiction is a narrative that follows a certain structure, but, is underpinned with imagination and curiosity. It helps to produce narratives that are inspired by, or imposed upon, buildings and the built environment which may or may not exist. These buildings are an amalgamation of various spaces, each of these spaces are a product of the architects imagination and produce mental images that constitute to form a mental narrative. These mental narratives are subjective and shaped out of the relation, an individual forms with a space or a building. Every space is interpreted by the user in a different way; therefore it is important for an architect to inculcate spatial organization in a way such that mental narratives are user-defined. These mental narratives can be formed by reading a fictional narrative or even visualizing architectural drawings. Examples for the same can be the architecture fictions of Bruce Sterling which create mental narratives of an alternate and technological future. Considering Arch gram as a historic reference and Hypothetical Developmental Organization as a contemporary reference, rendered drawings and schematic drawings were made which point towards the alternate futures of a building or society. These works of architecture fiction develop mental narratives that are not in a single well defined direction. But these mental narratives are full with imagination with ever changing spaces and events. Architecture recently has become clearly based on form and function, the emotional and personal connection has created a void in this field. The mental narratives chip off the gap created between the functional and emotional aspects of architecture as it creates a relation between a building and its users. Read More...

Design and Analysis of Earth-Air Heat Exchanger for Room Heating and Cooling
-Harshad R. Mahajan ; Prof. Dr. S. B. Thakre
The Earth Air Heat Exchanger (EAHE) is a promising technique which can effectively be used to reduce the heating and cooling load of a building by heating the air in winter and vice versa in summer. The main concern is to suggest ways for energy saving and minimise heating and cooling energy demands and carbon emissions in private residences. An EAHE utilizes the thermal mass of the soil surrounding or beneath the building in order to heat or cool incoming air. With the ground’s large thermal capacity and relatively stable temperatures, outdoor temperature variations are dampened and ventilation heating and cooling loads are reduced. At a depth of 2-3 m under the surface of earth, temperature of soil remains constant at 22 ˚C for whole year. EAHE consists of buried tubes at this depth and atmospheric air is passed through this tube. During winter season the atmospheric air temperature is lower than 22˚C for most of the times of the day so heating of air will take place in the Earth Air Heat Exchanger and proper conditioned air will be obtained at the outlet of EAHE. Similarly in summer season the atmospheric air temperature is greater than 22 ˚C for most of the times and hence cool air will be obtained at the outlet of EAHE. To determine the best material for EAHE in order to get optimum results aluminium and copper tubes of same dimensions will be used. After performing experimentation results will be studied and the best material will be selected considering various parameters. Read More...

An Efficient and Enhance Merkle Tree for Big Data Deduplication in Cloud
-V. Yathavaraj ; J. Arun; A. S. Suji
Cloud computing, as an emerging computing paradigm, enables users to remotely store their data in a cloud, so as to enjoy services on-demand. With rapid development of cloud computing, more and more enterprises will outsource their sensitive data for sharing in a cloud. To keep the shared data confidential against untrusted cloud service providers (CSPs), a natural way is to store only the encrypted data in a cloud. In previous approaches designed efficient and privacy-preserving big data deduplication in cloud storage achieves both privacy-preserving and data availability, in addition takes accountability into consideration to offer better privacy assurances than existing schemes. Proposed approach is to reduce the communication, storage overheads and duplicates search in cloud storage services previous researchers designed data deduplication schemes to protect from resist brute-force attacks or ensure the efficiency and data availability, but not both conditions. In this work propose block index search approach for privacy-preserving big data deduplication to fully protect the duplicate information from disclosure, even by a malicious CSP, without affecting the capability to perform data deduplication and Merkle Tree over encrypted data, in order to derive a unique identifier of outsourced data, this identifier serves to check the availability of the same data in remote cloud servers and it is used to ensure efficient access control in cloud. Extensive security and performance analysis show that the proposed scheme is highly efficient and provably secure. Read More...

Internal Intrusion Detection and Protection System using Data Mining and Forensic Technique
-Sayyeda Zeba ; Zarinabegam K Mundargi
Currently, most computer systems use user IDs and passwords as the login patterns to authenticate users. However, many people share their login patterns with co-workers and request these co-workers to assist co-tasks, thereby making the pattern as one of the weakest points of computer security. Insider attackers, the valid users of a system who attack the system internally, are hard to detect since most intrusion detection systems and firewalls identify and isolate malicious behavior launched from the outside world of the system only. In addition, some studies claimed that analysing system calls (SCs) generated by commands can identify these commands, with which to accurately detect attacks, and attack patterns are the features of an attack. Therefore, a security system, named the Internal Intrusion Detection and Protection System (IIDPS), is proposed to detect insider attacks at SC level by using data mining and forensic techniques. The IIDPS creates users' personal profiles to keep track of users' usage habits as their forensic features and determines whether a valid login user is the account holder or not by comparing his/her current computer usage behaviours with the patterns collected in the account holder's personal profile. The experimental results demonstrate that the IIDPS's user identification accuracy is 94.29%, whereas the response time is less than 0.45 s, implying that it can prevent a protected system from insider attacks effectively and efficiently. -Mr. Kanaiya G Bhatt ; Miss. Ketki Patil
Various environmental factors or environmental constraints such as snow, storms, heavy rain falls etc., affect the performance of the overhead cables. Due to this, and indeed due to technical faults occurring at underground, it becomes very difficult to identify exact fault location as they are buried underground. The project "Detection and Notification of Underground Cable Fault Using ATMEGA328 over GSM Modem" so designed aims to eliminate such problems and identifies the exact location of the underground fault. The GSM module has been implemented by which the information can be sent to the concerned person in the form of a text message specifying the exact type of the fault as well as its location from the base station. The primary aim of the project is to design a circuit that helps to identify the open and short-circuit faults in the underground cables using Arduino and also find the distance of the these faults accurately from the base station. Experimental Investigation of Combustion Characteristics of Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition Engine
-Pankaj Gharde ; Dr. S. V. Dingare
In diesel compression ignition engine, simultaneous reduction of NOx and PM is extremely challenging task. The most favourable solution for this is HCCI. It is an impulsive auto ignition of very lean air fuel mixture at multiple sites. It has advantages of both CI and SI engines. It also gives higher thermal efficiency like CI engines, higher ROHR, minimum DOC and has no flame propagation and mainly it has simultaneous control over NOx as well as PM. The combustion of homogeneous mixture in HCCI combustion helps in reducing DOC because of higher ROHR The present experiment is conducted on engine having two cylinders; they are made to operate on HCCI and conventional CI mode respectively. Both DI and PI systems were used simultaneously to investigate the performance characteristics. The toughest part is to prepare homogeneous mixture for combustion. As the diesel is a low volatile fuel, the preparation of homogeneous mixture is difficult therefore diesel vaporizer comes into picture. EGR is used to control the ROHR. To investigate the combustion characteristics experiment was performed at different relative air fuel ratios (λ). The DOC and ROHR is increases with increasing λ. EGR dilutes the homogeneous mixture and leads to minimum NOx emission by keeping maximum temperature in cylinder low. The increased boost pressure is responsible for short DOC and high rate of combustion. Also the indicated mean effective pressure is improved by 3% by DI method as compared to PI in HCCI.
