Live VM Migration with Redundancy Handling Mechanism in Cloud Computing
-Gagandeep Pannu ; R C Gangwar
Cloud computing is an emerging technology used to ensure resource availability to users on pay-per -use basis. Cost is encountered on pay-per-use basis. Several resources including storage provided by cloud ensures clients to store critical data and information but cost is encountered as user stores the information that may be redundant in nature. This paper purposes cost efficient migration mechanism in cloud datacenter. In order to accomplish this, redundancy handling mechanism is proposed that replaces the similar information with the index value. Index file is maintained for this purpose containing all the keywords of the files in non redundant manner. As the size of the file to be migrated is reduced so does storage requirement. Storage resource thus is efficiently used to ensure reduced pricing during migration. Simulation is conducted in Netbeans with cloudsim integration and result shows 25% improvement in terms of cost and migration time from existing literature. Read More...

Degrees of social status are closely linked to health inequalities. Those with poor health tend to fall into poverty and the poor tend to have poor health. According to the World Health Organization, within countries those of lower social economic strata have the worst health outcomes. Health also appears to have a strong social component linking it to education and access to information. In terms of health, poverty includes low income, low education, social exclusion and environmental decay. The poor within most countries are trapped in a cycle in which poverty breeds ill health and ill health breeds’ poverty. ATM Machine for Medicine is although not a new concept in its entirety, it could prove to be useful and hence important in developing countries like India where healthcare is almost critical. City Size Distribution in India: A Geographical Perspective
-Renu Sharma ; Prof. Randhir Singh Sangwan
The study of distribution of urban places is of paramount importance in analyzing various urban concepts. In every country there are cities of different sizes. In general large cities are small in number and small cities are large in number. Researchers have investigated if there is any pattern in city-size distribution. This has resulted in two main patterns. They are expressed by two laws or rules, namely Law of Primate city, and Rank-size rule. This paper is concerned with city-size distribution of India. An attempt has been made to find out, whether the city-size distribution of India conforms to any of these two patterns stated above. The study has been made in historical perspective so that the changing pattern may also be brought out. The paper has checked the applicability of Rank Size on India taking top thirteen ranking cities of the country. The study is based on population data pertaining to 13 highly populated cities in the year 2001. The cities are Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmadabad, Pune, Surat and Kanpur. The data is obtained from Census of India. Five cities namely Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Surat and Kanpur have population less than what they should have according to Rank-Size rule. Other cities have more than expected. Rank-Size rule is not applicable as all cities have population less than estimated Rank Size population. Taking Mumbai as 1st city, the primacy index is giving value less than actual population of all the cities prevalent in this town. Read More...

Design and Development of 4X4 Fractal MIMO Antenna for WI-FI Application
-Rahul Choudhary ; Gaurav Vijay
With the advent of practical implementation of multiple input multiple output technology, several constraints have come into picture, one of them is to define strategies to place multiple antennas on transmitter and receiver side in such a way, that they provide least interference with each other. The locations, at which the antennas are to be placed, are not always suitable to place multiple antennas at desired positions. To overcome this problem, MIMO antennas with low vertical beamwidth are designed and placed strategically inside a single radome. This solves the problem of placement of antennas to a great extent. (A. Ismahayati, P.J. Soh, R. Hadibah, G.A.E Vandenbosch). In this thesis to design such antenna, firstly a dual band microstrip antenna is designed which radiates efficiently in both the WLAN bands. This antenna is designed using a copper sheet of 0.5mm thickness. The dual band characteristics are achieved by cutting two slots in the sheet to create two dipoles, one for each frequency band. (Ahn, J., Kim, S., Lee, M., and Kim, Y.). This type of antenna solves the problem of location constraint, which is faced when multiple antennas are to be placed at transmitter and receiver side in such a way, that they provide least interference with each other. The locations, at which the antennas are to be placed, are not always suitable to place multiple antennas at desired positions. To overcome this problem, high gain MIMO antennas can be used which are capable of accepting input from multiple sources without causing interference with each other. This solves the problem of placement of antennas to a great extent. (Alhaddad, A.G., Abd-Alhameed, R.A., Zhou, D., See, C.H., Elfergani, I.T.E., Excell, P.S.). The aim of the research undertaken in this thesis is to develop a high gain fractal antenna which is able to cater with the needs of future communication standards for high data rates and reliable performance at the same time. The developed antennas solve the problem of location constraints of placing multiple antennas in a MIMO system. (Amer Basim Shaalan). Read More...

Earth Pressure Reduction Studies on Covered Pipelines with Geofoam
-Prof. Dhabe S. P. ; Prof. R. S. Rathod ; Prof. N. S. Syed; Prof. A. P. Chaure
India is currently investing heavily in pipelines. Given the high soil pressure in our country, it is important to ensure the soil pressure safety of underground pipelines. These facts have made the performance of buried and above-ground piping structures that are subject to fault and soil liquefaction an important subject of investigation. Pipelines are considered the most reliable, economical and efficient means of transporting water and other commercial liquids such as oil and gas. These piping systems are commonly used to transport water, sewage, oil, natural gas and other materials. They are often referred to as "lifelines" because they contain materials that are essential for life support and property maintenance. The ground pressure safety of underground pipelines has received great attention in recent years. Pipelines are important, large-scale lifeline systems that are exposed to a range of seismic hazards and soil conditions. Many buried pipelines in India run under high ground pressure and are therefore exposed to considerable buried pipelines. Pipelines running through strongly seismic zones should be designed so that they remain functional even after strong earthquake vibrations. Piping systems are commonly used to transport water, sewage, oil, natural gas, etc. over a large area and are exposed to a variety of seismic hazards and soil conditions. As a rule, pipelines are laid underground, primarily for aesthetic, safety-related, economic and ecological reasons. Read More...

In this paper we demonstrate a novel fault classification system for the identification of various health conditions of Induction machine using Autoencoder based Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA). A total of eleven statistical features are calculated for various health conditions (i.e., healthy, broken rotor bar, inner race bearing fault, outer race bearing fault) by varying the loading conditions. LDA classifier implemented on the reconstructed output feature of autoencoder which is almost similar to normally calculated features having less noise, more learnt information and non-linear transformation. Here, grid search algorithm is used to tune the hyper parameters of autoencoder. Autoencoder assists LDA to project the data in lower dimension with maximized separability that helps LDA to classify more accurately and avoid over fitting. With the advent of this technique fault identification and diagnosis can be done efficiently at real-time in the industries. Read More...

Analysis and Design of PFC Rectifier System without ADC
-Gowtham M ; Srinivasan K
The mains current in an ac/dc converter contains periodic current pulses due to the action of rectifier and output filter capacitor. The high current peaks cause harmonic distortion of the supply current and low power factor. This results in a poor power quality, voltage distortion, poor power factor at input ac mains, slowly varying rippled dc output at load end and low efficiency. This project proposes a DC power supply system to give high power factor and low current distortion on the rectifier side and provide stable DC voltage on the isolated DC-DC converter side. The proposed method which uses a MOSFET switch driven by the rectangular pulses of continuously varying duty cycle over a period of supply voltage is analyzed. Method of re-shaping the input current waveform to be similar pattern as the sinusoidal input voltage is done by the Boost converter and the related controls that act as a Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit. The controller is based on PIC microcontroller, requires no A/D converter type based programmings. Hence cost is low and gives high effectiveness. In this power factor correction is made automatic by using the closed loop circuit and workout by simulink using matlab. A simulation design example of 2600Watts soft-switching single phase DC power supply system is examined to assess the converter performance. Read More...

Review on Effects of Climate Change on Water Resources
-Divyam Kumar Sharma
The primary objective of this study is to determine what drives to plan for the impacts of a changing climate. As the climate continues to change, climate scientists have projected changes in water quantities available for human and other uses. A review of the present study has been taken up to quantify the possible impact of the climate change on the water resources of Indian river systems within the constraints of the uncertainty of climate change predictions. Impacts of climate change and climate variability on the water resources are likely to affect irrigated agriculture, installed power capacity, environmental flows in the dry season and higher flows during the wet season, thereby causing severe droughts and floods in urban and rural areas. Climate change impacts on water resources which are addressed and analyzed in the present study include impacts on annual and inter-annual water availability as well as extreme events of droughts and floods. The analysis has been performed to evaluate the severity of droughts and floods and thus identify the vulnerable hotspots that may require attention in view of the climate change in various parts of the country. The analysis is also performed on the blue and green water so as to identify the climate change impacts on these sub-components of water that are responsible for environmental functions and biomass production. The study determines the present water availability in space and time without incorporating any man-made changes like dams, diversions, etc. The same framework is then used to predict the impact of climate change on the water resources with the assumption that the land use shall not change over time. The analysis has also been extended to the detection of extreme events of droughts and floods that may be triggered on account of the climate change and are of major concern to the local societies. This paper will focus on each and every aspect related to climate change impact assessment of water resources of India. Read More...

Design Analysis and Comparison of Aluminium Alloy Based Leaf Springs with Conventional Steel Springs
-Susan K Thomas
In order to conserve natural resources and economize energy, weight reduction has been the main focus of automobile manufacturers in the present scenario. Weight reduction can be achieved primarily by the introduction of better material, design optimization and better manufacturing processes. The suspension leaf spring is one of the potential items for weight reduction in automobiles as it accounts for 10% - 20% of the unspring weight. This achieves the vehicle with more fuel efficiency and improved riding qualities. The introduction of metal alloys was made it possible to reduce the weight of leaf spring without any reduction on load carrying capacity and stiffness. Since, the aluminium alloy has more elastic strain energy storage capacity and high strength to weight ratio as compared with those of steel, it can used as the leaf springs for automobiles. Casting and comparison of the aluminium alloy-2219 leaf spring with steel will be done in this project. Read More...
