-Rahul Gupta ; Pina Bhatt; Jalak Doshi
During the conversion of fuel energy to mechanical energy by combustion, for casual engines approximately one-third of the energy goes to mechanical energy, one-third goes to exhaust heat and one-third goes to cooling system heat load .The limitations of fossil fuel in the world, optimizing energy consumption in various industrial processes becomes very important. In chemical process one of the most important devices related to energy and heat transfer is the heat exchanger. For decades, efforts have been done to enhance heat transfer, reduce the heat transfer time, minimize size of heat exchangers, and subsequently increase energy and fuel efficiencies. These endeavors incorporate and dynamic strategies, for example, making turbulence, expanding territory, and so forth. The majority of them are constrained by innate limitation of heat conductivity of the traditional liquids (for example, water, mineral oil and ethylene glycol). The poor heat transfer properties of the employed fluids in the industries are obstacles for using different types of heat exchangers. The heat rejection requirements of automobiles are continually increasing due to trends towards more power output for a given engine size, increased air conditioning and additional Auxiliary equipment. But the cooling requirements under some special work conditions could no longer be met merely by improving the structure of engine cooling system. Read More...

Behaviour of Building under Earthquake with or without Base Isolation by Varying Thickness of LRB
-Mr. Mithun Narhare ; Dr. Ashok Kasnale
A base-isolated building may sometimes show signs of an undesirable large response to long- duration, long-period earthquake ground motion and an connected building system without base- isolation may show a large response to a near-fault earthquake ground action. The setting up of base isolation in building at base level significantly increases the time period of the structure, this means it reduces the possibility of resonance of the structure giving rise to better seismic Performance of the building. The study is performed to compare the effectiveness of base Isolation in plan unbalanced and vertical multi-storied RC frame building. For this study, no of Storied R.C frame building is well thought-out and time times gone by analysis is conceded out using ETABS Software. The lead rubber bearing is designed as per code and the same was used for psychotherapy of base isolation system. The results obtained from the analysis were time period, base reaction, Story drift and story acceleration. Time period for the base isolated structures are elevated than that of the permanent base structure. Due to the presence of base isolation, base shear is significantly Reduced in each direction (x and y direction) as compared to fixed base building. It has been found that when compared to plan base isolated building gives better performance in high Seismic prone area by using isolators at the base of the building. Read More...

Degradation Studies on Oil from an Onshore Oil Well using Paraffin Degrading Bacterial (PDB) Consortium
-China Subbarao Chikkam
Paraffinic crude oil flows freely at higher temperature, as temperature reduces it tends to crystallize, or deposit around the down hole tubular, or at the face of producing zones in the well bore regions. It results in complete blockage of crude passage and possesses severe production problems causing huge economic loss. This problem is overcome by using microbes as tertiary oil recovery and this technique termed as Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR). Oil rich in paraffin is degraded with Paraffin Degrading Bacteria (PDB) so as to mitigate deposition of paraffin in well tubing‘s, decreasing the pour point of oil and increase its flow rate. Wells in which production of oil decreases are treated with bacterial culture so as to enhance oil recovery from the field. Laboratory studies in Indian Institute of Reservoir Studies (IRS) at Ahmedabad showed significant reduction in the viscosity and the pour point of the crude oil. Read More...

Performance Based Design of Multistoried Building with Transfer Slab
-Pathan Sajjad Jakirkhan ; Pathan Sajjad; Prof. Ganesh J. Kumbhar; Prof. M. N. Shirsath
In the last few decades, there has been a growing trend to utilize reliability-based methods of seismic evaluation for assessing the vulnerability of structures subject to ground motion vibrations. The traditional deterministic approach for seismic assessment of structures was found to be inadequate owing to the uncertainties and randomness commonly encountered under the effect of an earthquake. With the advent of digital technology, accuracy of seismic analysis increased which paved way for probabilistic approaches which offer a more realistic and rational approach. Fragility analysis is one such approach which correlates demand and capacity to establish the probabilistic characterization of the demands with respect to certain limit states. Developing mega cities leads to increase population in the city and there are not sufficient spaces provided by large number of buildings to accommodate the increasing population. High-rise buildings address this challenge as one of the solutions for the developing countries and mega cities. In addition, high-rise buildings give aesthetic to cities and they are signs of modern development. Comparatively, lower high-rise buildings (approximately 8~20 stories) are more common than super high-rise buildings (usually more than 30 stories) over the worlds. Although it is imperative to know structural behavior of both buildings including their seismic performances. High-rise buildings exhibit far more complex dynamic properties that require careful study and a complete understanding before they can be confidently resided in. Read More...

Replacement of Cement with Silica Fume with Addition of Jute Fiber
-Pratap Singh Birla
The concrete is widely used construction material in the world. In conventional concrete, micro-cracks develop before structure is loaded because of drying shrinkage and other causes of volume change. When the structure is loaded, the micro cracks open up and propagate because of development of such micro-cracks, results in inelastic deformation in concrete. It has been recognized that the addition of small, closely spaced and uniformly dispersed fibers to the concrete would act as crack arrester and would substantially improve its compressive and split tensile strength properties. In this research, Natural available Jute fibers is being used in concrete. Thereby, the mechanical properties such as compressive strength, split-tensile strength were determined for M35 grade concrete and by varying percentage of fiber content from 0%,1%,2%, 3%,4%and 5% by volume of cement and 10% Cement is replaced by silica fume. The optimum length of fiber 5-10mm. The mechanical properties such as compressive strength and split tensile strength with % Jute fiber were compared with conventional concrete properties of M35 grade. From the results it is observed that increasing % of fiber in concrete increases the compressive and split tensile strength of concrete. Read More...

As the human life march towards the modern amenities all the sectors of life become more and more advanced, Health care is not spared from this. The revolutionary health care predictions actually brings more relief for elderly or bed ridden patients. Internet of things actually plays vital role into this paradigm as it helps to collect and process the data from the wearable devices of patients. This data often transferred to the server though the wireless communication. Many existing systems are there where these data is been monitored manually or by loosely coupled systems which yields less accurate results in prediction. To get the impression of sensors proposed model deploys a simulation environment so that data like sensors can be generated in the regular environment based on some facts like
ï€ Number of hours of sleep
ï€ Number of meals taken
ï€ Number of Calories burnt
ï€ Blood pressure
ï€ Pulse rate
ï€ Blood Sugar Level and etc...
As the data reaches to the server through the wireless network all the data is been collected into a list and then they are preprocessed for the required attributes. Once the data is preprocessed then the attributes are subjected to the K -Means clustering to cluster the relevant data. And the distribution of data is been carried out using Information Gain Estimation. And the whole process is deployed using ANN. -Chandrabhan Vishalchandra Yadav ; Chandrabhan Yadav
Light-Fidelity (Li-Fi) is a new VLC (Visible light communication is much preferable than existing wireless technologies like Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, Bluetooth etc.) based technology that is proposed in late 2011 by prof. Harald Haas, uses illumination for internet data communication and will be implemented in a near future. The advantage of Li-Fi over present wireless systems is that the electromagnetic spectrum bandwidth used for visible light communication (VLC) of Li-Fi is 10,000 times greater than for electromagnetic spectrum bandwidth of radio frequencies for present wireless systems. As VLC is a relatively new concept in the field of data transmission, a lot of research is being done so that VLC can be used for various commercial purposes. It is found that not a lot research has been on the development of Li-Fi, so the possibilities are wide open. If this concept can be implemented successfully, it will surely bring a revolution in wireless data transmission. This paper presents an overview of VLC and the design of Li-Fi circuit and analysis of its performance over many years of Li-Fi systems. Read More...

Review on Effect on Compressive Strength of Interlocking Tiles upon Replacing Cement and Aggregate by Bagasse Ash, Lime and Demolished Concrete
-Satyendra Kumar ; Vipin Kannaujiya
Construction is the major part of everyday life. It requires all the construction material which mainly include cement and sand. Cement provides the basic strength to the building. The manufacturing of cement is a major issue as it involves pollution on a large level as well as cost of construction also increases. If some of raw material having similar composition can be replaced by weight of cement in concrete then cost could be reduced without affecting its quality. For this reason sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA) is one of the main byproduct can be used as mineral admixture due to its high content in silica (SiO2).A few studies have been carried out on the ashes obtained directly from the industries to study pozzolanic activity and their suitability as binders, partially replacing cement. The project focuses on the reuse of industrial wastes as a part of building material to provide economical and strong interlocking tiles. Recent researches have shown that bagasse ash, the waste produced from sugarcane industry is rich in cementous property. Use of it as a partial replacement of cement saves the cost of cement. Demolished concrete will be used in place of aggregates to provide economical replacement of aggregates. Through various study results it was obtained that replacement of cement only by Bagasse ash led to a decrement in strength, therefore we are adding lime in it. The proportions were checked through hit and trial and content of Bagasse ash varied from 20% to 50% and best strength was obtained at 30% cement and 70% material being Bagasse ash. Read More...

India is an agriculture based country which takes various types of crops. Now a day various agricultural machines are available in the market which are very heavy and costly. Due to this it is not suitable for poor farmers. And all farmers remove crops by hands which has very effort is fully and time consuming process. Some times while cutting or removing crops by hand results into damage due to blisters on hands. Because of this the labours are not available for work, in order to overcome this situation and reducing human efforts and working time also we introduce a new simple but more efficient machine for a farmers. Whose application is more helpful in agricultural sector. The name of this device is crop cutter (reaper) and separator. This device cuts the crop and throws it on one side in the direction on rotation of separator. This machine targets the small scale farmers who have land area of less than 2 or 5 acres. This machine is compact and can cut up to two rows of wheat, millet, jowar crops. It runs on petrol or diesel engine, this power from engine, is provided through shaft, pulley and belt drive arrangement to the cutting blades. This compact crop cutter is manufactured using locally available spare parts and thus, it is easily maintainable. This crop cutter might be the solution to the problems faced by a small scale farmer regarding cost and labour implementation. Read More...

-Prof. S. S. Kandagal ; Altaf Hussain. A. T; Mansoorali. M. S; Sharifsaheb. H. L; Veeresh. S. B
In present century, most of the people use vehicles like cars, bike, buses, trucks etc, along with the vehicles the safety is a major issue with the person’s condition. There are many safety precautions are considered in the design of vehicles like, gauge, air bag, braking system, speed limit etc, but while driving there are rules to be followed by the owners/drivers of the vehicle as per the country transport regulations, especially in the night driving dim/dip control of head light is necessary where else it affect glare of the person (driver). This feature can mainly use during night drive. This temporary blindness of eyes is called as glaring effect. To overcome these manual dipping problems, an automatic mechanism has made which identifies the upcoming vehicle that, their headlight is affecting our eyes and according to their response our circuit decides whether our headlight should be in dip mode or dim mode. In this view there is a need of design of a model/circuit to overcome the above issues, hence a "Low Cost Automatic Dipper Light Controller of Vehicles Using Light Dependent Resistor (LDR)" is taken to design and implement in the vehicles. Design of Iris Recognition System using Gabor Filter
-Chetali M Shinde ; R V Babar
Iris based person identification has become very largely used biometric technology. This paper proposes a technique of feature extraction of iris images, which uses 2-D Gabor filter with four orientations. The general-purpose iris recognition system is of low speed and not portable. Hence there is a need to make use of dedicated hardware for this. Most of the algorithms of this system using MATLAB do not incorporate parallel processing instead comes under sequential processing. In the proposed framework, image pre-processing, segmentation of iris and normalization carried out using Verilog HDL and Matlab programming. Feature extraction using Gabor filter algorithm and feature matching using Hamming Distance (HD) is simulated using Modelsim with Matlab software and synthesized using Xilinx ISE on Spartan 3E FPGA(XC5VLX110T) to achieve parallel processing and to improve the time delay. -Mr. Shivendra Singh ; Sitaram Sahani; Mohammad Quiser; Pankaj Kumar Yadav; Rana Pratap Singh
The investigation of different blunt body shape and preferable shape of blunt body that can be utilized for vertex low meter application numerical reenactment of blunt body shape .for example rectangular, roundabout and equilateral rectangular have been complied to comprehend wonder of vertex shedding. Theodore von Karman, a Hungarian-American physicist, was the first to depict the impact where a non-streamlined question (additionally challenged a false front body) set in the way of a quick streaming stream, makes the liquid then again isolate from the protest on its two downstream sides, and, as the limit layer ends up disengaged and twists back on itself, framing vortices (likewise called whirlpools or vortexes). He likewise noticed that the separation between the vortices was consistent and depended exclusively on the extent of the stone that shaped it. In favor of the blunt body where the vortex is being shaped, the liquid speed is higher and the pressure is lower. As the vortex moves downstream, it develops in quality and estimate, and in the long run confines or sheds itself. This is trailed by a vortexs being framed on the opposite side of the blunt body. The substituting vortices are dispersed at measure up to separations. Read More...

Seismic Behaviour of RC Framed Buildings of Different Configurations Resting on Hill Slopes
-Mohd Arshad Mohd Mazher ; Prof. Sarang S Padmawar
Structural irregularities are commonly found in constructions and structures. Architectural demands are usually the cause of such irregularities. Most of the constructions in hilly regions are constrained by local topography which results in the adoption of either a step back or step back & set back configuration. Due to this the structure is irregular by virtue of varying column heights leading to torsion and increased shear during seismic ground motion. A type of irregular structure for which some poor performances have been observed during past earthquakes is the vertically setback buildings. A vertical setback is a geometric irregularity in a vertical plane. Setback structures are characterized by abrupt reductions in floor area in the upper stories. Story weight, strength, and stiffness also decrease with height above the foundation, but not necessarily at the same rate. Buildings with vertical setback cause sudden jump in earthquake forces at the level of discontinuity. The general solution of a setback problem is the total seismic separation in plan through separation section, so that portions of the building are free to vibrate independently. When the building is not separated, the lateral-force-resisting elements such as shear walls, bracing systems can be used.In this dissertation work, performance of buildings situated on sloping ground with and without setback has been evaluated. For comparison purpose commonly shaped regular and setback buildings such as stepped type building is selected. Various models are decided with incorporation of shear walls at various locations. Performances of these various combinations are studied and compared. Linear dynamic analysis i.e. response spectrum analysis is carried out on the entire mathematical 3D models using the finite element software ETABS Version 2015. Read More...

Study and Application of Earthen Air Tunnel in Abhalmaya Office Building, Sangli, Maharashtra
-Komal Patil ; Dr. L. S. Pammar
The phenomenon of mean earth temperature is the property of earth that at a depth of about 1.5 to 2 m, the temperature of ground remnants nearly constant all through the year. This constant temperature is called earths undisturbed temperature which remains higher than surface temperature of earth in winter season and lower than surface temperature in summer. For effective utilization of heat capacity of earth, the earthen air tunnel heat has been introduced to building. The earthen air tunnel are considered as one of the most passive system due to its ability to provide both the effects; heating in cold months and cooling during warm months. They use the earths near constant subterranean temperature to warm or cool air for residential, agricultural or industrial used. This paper reviews the learning outcome from the case study Studio 8-8-8 Abhalmaya an Architect Office in Sangli Maharashtra which represent the internal temperature difference of about 10% as compare to external temperature which are very much beneficial in a place like Sangli where average annual temperature is about 25.4 °C and average summer temperature is about 30 °C. Detection of No Parking Signboards using Template Matching
-A. Lisa Dayle Carvalho ; Samantha Cardoso; Fathimath Fayiza
The aim of this project is to recognize the signboards in a parking space in order to detect if a vehicle is violating the rules. By doing so we can manage a parking space smoothly. Static digital images are taken by a camera module. This camera is placed on a dynamic system (say a mobile robot). The software first preprocesses (grayscaling, blurring) followed by Canny edge detection, where in we do sobel edge detection, non-maximum suppression and double threshold hysteresis. To finally match and see if there is a signboard that is governing the parking area stretch we apply template match. By detecting the signboards we can make sure that the vehicles parked are not violating the signboards. Read More...

Thermal Behaviour of Epoxy Composites Filled with Micro-size Aluminium Oxide Particulates
-Prabha Shankar Tiwari ; Pushpraj Singh; Abhilash Shukla
Among the various class of available composite material, polymeric composites have emerged as important materials because of their light weight, high specific strength and stiffness, excellent fatigue resistance and outstanding corrosion resistance compared to most common metallic alloys. In that respect, the present work aims at developing a class of polymer composites consisting of epoxy as a matrix material with micro-size aluminium oxide as a reinforcing material. A set of composites with varying loading of filler content ranging upto 50 wt. % has been fabricated. The effect of filler content on thermal properties of such fabricated samples is investigated. From the experimental results, it is found that inclusion of aluminium oxide filled epoxy composites exhibit improved thermal conduction property, increased glass transition temperature and reduced coefficient of thermal expansion. With modified thermal property, the presently fabricated composites have the potential to be used in applications where thermal conductivity is of prime importance. Also with improved glass transition temperature and coefficient of thermal expansion material can find its application where resistance to thermal fatigue is required. Read More...
