Dynamic Response of RCC Silo in Seismic Zone V
-Sonali Sunil Patil ; Prof Y. P. Pawar; Prof. S. S. Kadam
A silo is a tall and big (heavy) structure for storing bulk materials. Silos are used in agriculture to store grains. These are more commonly used to store coal, fly ash, cement, carbon black, woodchips, ore, crushed stone, gravel, food products and sawdust. Silos are special structures subjected to different static and dynamic loading conditions, which cause unusual failure modes. Janseen’s theory is used for pressure calculation in static condition and theoretical approach for calculation of additional pressure due to seismic action. The standards viz. ARE 1893-2002may be used for comparison of “Base Shear Force†at the bottom of a Silo. The calculation is based on respective codal provisions applicable to Indian Seismic Zones, Site Conditions, etc. Nonetheless, a thorough investigation is required to know the structural behavior of the silo under seismic loading for proper design and improved performance. Linear dynamic analysis is done using software STAAD.Pro V8i as per IS 1893(Part I):2002. The Indian Standard “IS: 4995 (Part-I)-1974†is preferably used to assess the silo for angle of internal friction and bulk density of various materials stored in. Badly designed silos have buckled and unexpectedly collapsed due to earthquakes. Structural response to earthquakes is a dynamic phenomenon that depends on dynamic characteristics of structures and the intensity, duration and frequency content of the exciting ground motion. In the present work, dynamic analysis of a typical silo is done for earthquake Zone V as per Indian code. Two distinct analyses are carried out namely, Equivalent Static Analysis (ESA) and Response Spectrum Analysis (RSA) using STAAD.Pro V8i software. The Load combinations are considered as per Indian code. The results in terms of Fundamental natural period, Natural Frequency, lateral Displacements are compared for the different silo models considered in the present study. Read More...

Research Papers for More Electric and All Electric Aircraft
-Aditi Singh
History knows much more cases, where people have died and aircrafts have been lost, due to disabled flight controls. It is very challenging job for aircraft manufacturing agencies to detect the cause of loss after damage of whole aircraft. Results shows, that most of the aircraft accidents caused due to the loss of hydraulic fluid. Today, most of the hydraulic lines are damaged, all actuators are not provided with hydraulic power, so surfaces cannot be moved. Hydraulic system are replaced with PBW system, in both accident access, crew now somewhat being able to control remaining flight control surfaces, which were intact. Even damage to all electric channels on one surface, will not lead to total loss of control of the remaining flight control surfaces. This is because current cannot drain away from aircraft, like hydraulic fluid. By analyzing aircraft accident, it can be said, that PBW system is safer when impossible things happen, like loss of all power supply channels. This makes us to move forward towards more fuel efficient plane or more electric aircrafts in future. Over the past years various industries are looking for renewable sources. If we have reasonable way of storing cost effectively and efficiently, this energy stored dilemma is lowing our adoption of renewable energy. Aviation industry is one of the most apparent to see. As we all know, we are going in a world of pushing electric vehicles and solar powered homes, yet everytime when we launch it burns 147 tons of fossil fuels. Boeing and Airbus are in constant battle of creating fuel efficient plane allowing customers to save ever increasing fuel cost. Yet they still use kerosene. This paper is comparative literature review of analyzing some potential problem with PBW technology focusing in terms of critical flight control with designing a methodology of all electric and more electric control system for various applications including flight-critical applications. -Sura Venkata Mahesh ; S Akhil Tej; C G Mohan Babu
The use of Steel in construction industry is very low in India compared to many developing countries. Composite construction essentially different materials are completely compatible and complementary to each other, they have almost the same thermal expansion, they have an ideal combination of strengths with the concrete efficient in compression and the steel in tension, concrete also gives corrosion protection and thermal insulation to the steel at elevated temperatures and additionally can restrain slender steel sections from local or lateral-tensional buckling. Steel concrete composite construction means the concrete slab is connected to the steel beam with the help of shear connectors so that they act as a single unit. In the present work steel concrete composite with RCC options are considered for comparative study of (G+7) story commercial building which is situated in earthquake zone-IV and for earthquake loading, the provisions of IS: 1893(Part1)-2002 is considered. A three dimensional modeling and analysis of the structure are carried out with the help of ETABS 2013 software. All frames are designed for same gravity loadings. The RCC slab is used in all two cases. Beam and column sections are made of either RCC or COMPOSITE sections. ETABS 2013 software is used and results are compared. Comparative study of R.C.C with Composite Story building Comparative study includes Lateral Displacement, Story Drifts and Base Shear in composite with respect to R.C.C. Sections. Steel-concrete composite frame system can provide an effective and economic solution to most of these problems in medium to high-rise buildings. Read More...

Experimental Study on Enhancement of COP of VCC Refrigeration System by using Diffuser after Compressor
-Jasmeen Raju Bagwan ; Dr. J. A. Hole
This paper describes the experimental analysis of vapor compression refrigeration system by using the diffuser at inlet of condenser concept. A diffuser before inlet of condenser for a vapor compression system is provided. The diffuser has an inlet to accept a compressed liquid refrigerant from a compressor of a refrigeration system. The refrigerant coming out of the diffuser has higher-pressure level than that of refrigerant entering the diffuser. The purpose of a compressor in VCRS is to increase the pressure of the refrigerant. In the condenser, there is a drop in pressure across the tubes thereby increasing the power consumption of the compressor. This paper is an experimental study to minimize the compressor work by providing a diffuser at the inlet of the condenser. Diffuser converts the high velocity of liquid refrigerant coming out from the compressor into the pressure energy. Diffuser is a device which recovers the pressure without any work input. Refrigerant from the compressor discharge enters the diffuser and increases its pressure and temperature considerably. Read More...

-Saiyyad Aaves ; Saad Ahemad Shaikh; Saeed Khan; Mudassir Khan; Tabishoddin
Today air pollution is a major problem of many countries also quantity of conventional fuel is decreasing day by day. So, the search on alternative fuels is on progress and in demand too. Today there are several solutions to meet demand for better economy in fuel and one of them is the concept of pneumatic-hybrids. The project focuses on a hybrid-vehicle driven by air as alternate source to fuel and a battery driven too, to reduce the dependency on conventional sources. In this, compressed air is stored in storage tank/compressor& pneumatic motor is used for conversion of pressure to mechanical energy. This pneumatic-hybrid vehicle is not only eco-friendly, pollution free but also very economical. An Experimental Analysis to develop a Hybrid Pneumatic Vehicle that works on compressed air. The vehicle is powered by a compressed-air engine and can be later switched to batteries. When vehicle will move on battery the tank of air will automatically filled through belt arrangement with rear shaft. When this compressed air expands, the energy is released to do work. So this energy in compressed air can also be utilized to rotate motor. Read More...

Study on Permeable Concrete Use as Road Pavement
-Er. Neeraj Kumar ; Mr. Udayvir
Permeable concrete is a mixture of cement, water and a particular sized coarse aggregate combined to form a Permeable structural material. It has a high volume of voids, which is the factor responsible for the lower strength and its light weight nature. Permeable concrete is also called Permeable concrete, zero-fines concrete and pervious concrete. Pervious concrete has the ability to allow water to permeate the material which reduces the environmental problems associated with asphalt and conventional concrete pavements. Permeable concrete consists of a mixture of coarse single sized aggregate and a thin layer of cement paste about 1.3 mm thick. The most common application of Permeable concrete is in low traffic volume areas, such as: residential roads, driveways, parking lots and footpath. The force exerted by Permeable concrete on the foundations is approximately one third of that formed by the same structure constructed from conventional concrete. This difference may be of importance when structure is on a low bearing capacity ground. Permeable concrete is mostly used in non-pavements applications, limited use in pavements applications. This assignment purpose is to assess the suitability for Permeable concrete to be used for the construction of road pavements. This will include investigation of current literature on the topic and conducting standard concrete testing on Permeable concrete and conventional concrete to determine and evaluate their properties. With the help of tested data a conclusion is made on the usefulness of Permeable concrete pavements and it may be determined that further testing is required. Read More...

Comparative Study on the Effect of Curing with Fresh Water and Sewage Water on Structural Strength of Concrete
-Akash Jaiswal ; Dr J N Vyas
In this research work, the comparative study of effect of curing with sewage water and fresh water on concrete was investigated. This paper presents the result and findings of an experimental research on the effect of curing with sewage water and fresh water on compressive strength, flexural strength, split tensile strength of concrete. For this concrete cubes, beams, cylinders were cast and curing with fresh water and sewage water for a mix of M-15, M-20 & M-25 for the standard ratio. A total specimen of 18 cubes, 18 beams, and 18 cylinders including specimens for reference concrete were cast for given mixes and exposed to 7 days, 14 days and 28 days period of curing. The reference concrete was prepared with PPC using only fresh water and sewage water curing. Curing of concrete is the operation of maintaining humidity & temperature of freshly placed concrete during some definite period following placing, casting or finishing to assure satisfactory hydration of cement. When water is added to cement, sand & aggregate mix, the reaction between cement & water is exothermic. Hence lot of heat is evolved in reaction. This is known as heat of hydration. The heat of hydration results in evaporation of water from concrete that results in reduction of strength of concrete. Hence external application of water is required. This is ‘curing’. Efficient uninterrupted curing is the key to quality concrete. Proper curing of concrete is crucial to obtain design strength. The curing period depends on the required properties of concrete. Curing is designed primarily to keep the concrete moist by preventing the loss of moisture from the concrete during the period in which it is gaining strength curing may be applied in the number of ways & the most appropriate means of curing may be dictated by the site or the construction method. Various methods of curing are available. The existing study suggests that curing with fresh water is best suited for concrete. Hence the strength of concrete observed in laboratory is illusive & is not the real strength of concrete on site. Read More...

Study on the Analysis of R.C.C. Structure using CLC Blocks with Burnt Clay Bricks - A Review
-Rahul Verma ; Dr J N Vyas
A building can be defined as an enclosed structure intended for human occupancy. Constructions work can be seen in almost all the developing countries. With the increases in material cost in the construction work, there is a need to find more cost saving alternatives so as to maintain the cost of construction houses , multi storey etc, which can be affordable to people. In the manufacturing of burnt clay bricks, smoke evolved at a great extent and also some toxic gases which can harm an environment. So as to overcome with all these problem, Cellular lightweight concrete blocks are used which is more economical and eco-friendly. This project presents the study on the previous analysis of structures using Cellular lightweight concrete blocks. Cellular Lightweight Concrete has been successfully used and it has gained popularity due to its lower density and comparative strength than conventional brick. It is created by uniform distribution of air bubbles throughout the mass of concrete. The foam contains isolated air bubbles, which creates million of unconnected tiny voids/cells in the mix resulting in lighter weight of concrete. CLC can be produced in wide range of controlled densities from 400 kg/m3 to 1,800 kg/m3. Read More...
