Effect of Temperature on Strength Properties of Geopolymer Concrete
-S Gowrisankar ; C Sreenivasulu
Generally ordinary Portland cement is using in concrete for construction. It results in the increase of cement demand. Production cement results in the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) in equal amount from the industries. About 7% of world emission CO2 was produced from cement industries. Which shows serious effect on environment results in global warming and greenhouse effect etc. To overcome this issues replacing concrete with geopolymers which are rich in silica and alumina. Fly ash and GGBS based geopolymer concrete of different molarities (6M, 8M & 10M) was casted. Sample cubes (150mmx150mmx150mm) of GPC were placed in oven immediately after demoulding for curing up to 20hrs duration. Cubes were cured at different temperatures (50C, 60C, 70C, 80C & 90C) for a constant period. After curing in oven cubes moved room for normal curing period. Workability test, NDT, compressive strength test were performed. Workability decreases with increase in molarity of alkaline solution. Different molarity GPC has different optimum strength and optimum temperatures. No extra water other than alkaline solution was used. Strength increases in curing period for ambient cured GPC. Strength increases up to optimum temperature for oven cured GPC. Read More...

Pollutant Formation in SI Engine
-Aman Kumar
The main focus of this paper is to study and investigate the cyclic emissions and pollutant formation in a typical SI engine. The main ingredient of pollutants formation in a typical SI engine is Nitric Oxide (NO) and nitrogen oxide (NO2) collectively known as NOx. The other components are carbon monoxide (CO) and unburnt hydrocarbons (HC). The following paper is based on the experiments performed on an optical single cylinder SI research engine under different conditions. High - speed natural light photography is done to maintain records of in cylinder pressure, temperature and other parameters of the combustion chamber. The experiments included the investigation of the effect of various engine parameters such as ignition timing and mixture air-fuel equivalence ratio on knocking combustion and pollutant formation. The investigations are done to keep a check on the formation of pollutants from the gasoline engines which affects the environment adversely. As a result of the investigation, at stoichiometric conditions, by advancing spark timing from MBT to knock intensity equal to 6 bar, instantaneous NO and HC emissions are increased up to 60% as compared to the MBT operating conditions. A further increase of knock intensity at the limits of pre-ignition region was observed to significantly drop NO emissions. It was found that when knocking combustion occurs at lean conditions, NO emissions are increased. Read More...

Network Lifetime Extension Based on Network Coding Technique in Underwater Acoustic Network
-Renu Rani
Underwater acoustic sensor networks (UWASNs) are performing a lot of interest in ocean applications, such as ocean animal surveillance, ocean pollution monitoring, oceanographic data collection, assisted navigation, and offshore exploration, UWASN is composed of underwater sensors that engage sound to transmit data collected in this ocean. This cause to utilize sound is that radio frequency (RF) signals used by terrestrial sensor networks (TWSNs) can only transmit a few meters in this water. Unfortunately, this efficiency of UWASNs is deficient to that of this terrestrial sensor networks (TWSNs). This challenges in under water communication are propagation delay, high bit error rate and fixed bandwidth. Network coding is a hopeful technology that many researchers have encouraged due to its potentially significant benefits to increase this efficiency of data transmission. In this thesis, we use simulations to firstly evaluate this performance of different network topologies without network coding. Then increase this network throughput by using network coding technique. It also has a potential to decrease this end to end delay and improve this reliability. However, there are tradeoff (between delay and reliability) when network coding is used, and some limitations which we summarize. Read More...

An Experimental Study on Behaviour of GSB Layer by Utilization of Granulated Sub Base, Crumb Rubber and Pond Ash
-Sheik Sharukh Khan ; Ch. Damodar Naidu
Subbase is a layer of aggregate material laid on the subgrade, on which the base course layer is located. Subbase is often the main load-bearing layer of the pavement. Its role is to spread the load evenly over the subgrade. The quality of subbase is very important for the useful life of the road. Subbase is prepared according to the MORTH norms. Red soils denote the second largest soil group available in India. The handling of Red soil is a difficult task for highway engineer to construct the road due to several reasons, so various soil modification techniques are tried to enhance the properties of soil. Granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) is major by-product of steel plants, which causes the environmental pollution and also Crumb Rubber (CR) is a leftover product of castoff rubber tyres. Both of these waste products causes the disposal problem. In this study these materials are used as a reinforcing material for subbase layer. This study presents the result of experimental investigation on the influence of Pond ash (PA) on the index properties of Red soil. The aggregates which are used in subbase level can be replaced with varying percentages GBFS and CR separately. Read More...

Seven-Level Hybrid Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter Fed Single Phase Induction Motor Drive
-Jithin Kumar IJ ; Arun Xavier; Vivekanandan P
The poor quality of voltage and current of a con-ventional inverter fed induction machine is due to the presence of harmonics and hence there is significant level of energy losses. The Multilevel inverter is used to reduce the harmonics. The inverters with a large number of steps can generate high quality voltage waveforms. The higher levels can follow a voltage refer-ence with accuracy and with the advantage that the generated voltage can be modulated in amplitude instead of pulse-width modulation. An active harmonic elimination method is applied to eliminate any number of specific higher order harmonics of multilevel converters with unequal dc voltages. a cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter that can be implemented using only a single dc power source and capacitors. Standard cascaded multilevel inverters require "n" dc sources for "2n + 1" levels. Without requiring transformers, the scheme proposed here allows the use of a single dc power source with the remaining "n-1" dc sources being capacitors, which is referred to as hybrid cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (HCMLI). HCMLI using only a single dc source for each phase is promising for high-power motor drive applications as it significantly decreases the number of required dc power supplies, provides high-quality output power due to its high number of output levels, and results in high conversion efficiency and low thermal stress as it uses a fundamental frequency switching scheme. Design of Post Tensioned and Prestressed Concrete Box Girder-Slab for a Bridge Deck
-Almas Mohiuddin ; Waseem Sohail
Bridge construction today has achieved a worldwide level of importance. Bridges are the key elements in any road network and use of pre-stress girder type bridges gaining popularity in bridge engineering fraternity because of its better stability, serviceability, economy, aesthetic appearance and structural efficiency. I & T-beam bridges are one of the most commonly used types of bridge and it is necessary to constantly study, update analysis techniques and design methodology. Structurally they are simple to construct. Hence they are preferred over other types of bridges when it comes to connecting between short distances. The report examines in detail the application of segmental precast Design of Post Tensioned and Prestressed Concrete Box Girder-Slab for a Bridge Deck in achieving long spans in bridge structures. Numerous examples from throughout the world indicate that such construction can provide an effective means of achieving long span in the range of 100 to 500 ft. Used segmental pre-cast bridge structure member is manufactured in a number of short units which during erection are joined together, end to end, and post-tensioned to form the completed superstructure. Adherence to these simple rules will not prevent all damage in moderate or large earthquakes, but life threatening collapses should be prevented, and damage limited to repairable proportions. Considering the time variant, I have been focused on a box girder of span 40 meters and analyzing it with respect to pre-tensioning and post-tensioning and incorporating the graphs for the various loads and deflections. In this case designing is done using STAAD- Pro software. Software will be used for 3D design model of 40m span Box Girder-Slab for a Bridge Deck & will be tested in order to study its behaviour during the construction process and under permanent loads. Shear force, Bending moment, axial force, base shear, are studied with accordance to earthquake response effects. The analysis results were compared with analytical predictions obtained by means of a prototype model developed for the nonlinear and time-dependent analysis of segmental erected, reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. Generally good agreement was obtained, showing the adequacy of the model to reproduce the structural design of the different elements in the post-tensioned pre-stressed bridge structure. Read More...

-Shriram Sherha ; Prof. Kapil Soni; Prof. Rachana Bajaj
The analysis of Portland Cement in concrete is underneath important evaluate because of excessive amount in carbon dioxide gas released to the surroundings at some point of the production of cement. In current years, tries to increase the use of fly ash to partly replace the analysis of Portland cement in concrete are gathering momentum. Most of this by-product fabric is currently dumped in landfills, creating a hazard to the environment. Polymer material is a "new" cloth that does not need the presence of Portland cement as a binder. Instead, the supply of materials inclusive of fly ash, that are rich in Silicon (Si) and Aluminium (Al), are activated via alkaline beverages to produce the binder. Hence concrete and not using a Portland cement. This thesis reviews the information of improvement of the process of creating fly ash-based Polymer material. Fresh fly ash-based completely Polymer material has been capable of stay plausible up to at least120 mins without any sign of putting and without any degradation inside the compressive power. Providing a relaxation period for clean concrete after casting in advance than the start of curing as tons as 5 days improved the compressive energy of hardened concrete. The modulus of elasticity, the Poissons ratio, and the oblique tensile energy, are similar to the ones of everyday Portland cement concrete. Read More...

Physical and Mechanical Characteristics of the Jute Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites
-Hari Jana Raju ; Mr. K. Namcharaiah
The present investigation deals with Fiber-reinforced polymer composites that played a dominant role for a long time in a variety of applications for their high specific strength and modulus. The fiber which serves as a reinforcement in reinforced plastics may be synthetic or natural. Past studies show that only synthetic fibers such as glass, carbon etc., have been used in fiber-reinforced plastics. Although glass and other synthetic fiber-reinforced plastics possess high specific strength, their fields of application are very limited because of their inherent higher cost of production. In this connection, an investigation has been carried out to make use of jute, a natural fiber abundantly available in India. Natural fibers are not only strong and lightweight but also relatively very cheap. The present work describes the development and characterization of a new set of natural fiber based polymer composites consisting of jute as reinforcement and epoxy resin. The newly developed composites are characterized with respect to their physical and mechanical characteristics. Experiments are carried out to study the effect of fiber loading on physical and mechanical behavior of these epoxy based polymer composites. This work also includes the comparison of elastic properties of composites using micromechanical models with experimental and existing analytical formulations like rule of mixture, Halpin-Tsai, and Lewis and Nielsen models that are used extensively in material modelling. Tracing Power System Weak Nodal Shifts Following Reactive Power Compensation
-Bright. G. C. E ; Uju, I. U.; Onyedikachi, S. N.
The deficiency of reactive power especially at load buses result in poor voltage profile in these load buses which do not respond in the same measure owing to their individual reactive power need, adequacy of network reactive supply and their proximity to an adequate reactive source. The response of load buses to reactive power variation can be determines from various static methods suchas voltage drop index (VDI) or voltage-reactive power (V-Q) sensitivity analysis whose result provide a means to determine the choice location for reactive power compensation for voltage improvement and stability. This study using the Nigerian 330kV network determined the VDI of the networks load buses which was ranked based on the total VDI (TVDI). The work is an extension to the basic investigation for the optimal location of reactive power compensators within the Nigerian 330kV of 41 buses. In this case study, load bus active power is varied from a base case through five steps of 10% increments for which nodal voltages were determined. Using the result, TVDI for the load buses were computed and ranked with Yola, Omotosho and Maiduguri as the top three. Aided with this result, load flow analyses were executed for the individual and simultaneous shunt compensation at these buses and V-Q sensitivity analysis performed to ascertain how nodal weakness shifts between load bus following compensation. Each of the compensated cases when compared with the base case bus load flow result showed significant improvement in nodal voltage magnitude which justified the compensation but it did not eliminate bus voltage violation in the other previously violated buses. Following optimum nodal reactive compensation, the result from V-Q analysis shows that compensating a load bus of higher total voltage drop index shifts the bus participating in voltage instability to the next ranked load bus based on the TVDI. The deduction here is that independent shunt compensation for a higher ranked bus with respect to the bus participation factor or total voltage drop index shifts the responsibility of voltage instability to the next ranked load bus while compensating a lower ranked bus keeps the bus participation factor profile unchanged. Performance Evaluation of Spanning Tree Protocol and Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol in Computer Networks
-Amit Kumar ; Bhavana Bidarkar
A computer network is a self-configuring network of hosts connected by links which together form a random topology. Spanning Tree protocol enabled switches go over a root election procedure grounded on Bridge Protocol Data Unit (BPDU). All supplementary switches then figure the shortest, lower cost path to the root switch and block ports that are not lengthwise these shortest paths, ensuing in a loop-free, tree-based topology. Deprived of a protocol such as Spanning Tree, Layer 2 bridged networks are vulnerable to broadcast/multicast and/or unidentified unicast storms. Rapid spanning tree protocol is extended version of original spanning tree protocol but little more features as compared to spanning tree. In this we have discussed the overall features of spanning tree and Rapid spanning tree protocol. Read More...

Performance Evaluation of Hybridphotovoltaic Thermal Collectors
-J A Ranga Babu ; M Raja Sekhar; P. Ravindra Babu; B. Karuna Kumar; M. R. Ch. Sastry
A vast evolution on renewable energy resources are going on, particularly on solar energy. It is one of the better option for alleviate the poverty in developing countries, where majority of people do not have access to modern forms of energy. Due to their inherent decentralized nature of renewable energy resources, they can large contribute to resolve the many energy problems. Amid of various techniques and technologies for the exploitation of solar energy, the Photovoltaic conversion is the one which can directly produce electricity, while the thermal collectors provide heating energies. These two systems are independent and different, and are not compatible. Individually PV panels can generate electricity by converting the incident solar radiation. However, when the incident solar radiation is more, temperature of the panel also rises which lowers the performance of the PV panel. By hybridizing the thermal collectors with PV panel one can reduce the temperature of the panel and that heat can transferred to thermal collectors. Thereby one can enhance the panel performance and store the energy in thermal collector for later usage. This hybrid solar photovoltaic thermal (PV/T) offers an interesting option now because the absorbed solar radiation is converted into electric energy and heat simultaneously. The objective of the work is to study theoretically and experimentally the hybrid (PV/T) Collector. To conduct the theoretical analysis a mathematical model is used to study the enhanced panel performance and collector as well. Direct absorption type collector is arranged beneath the panel to extract heat from the photovoltaic module. By hybridizing, PV module efficiency is raised to 23.12% and efficiency of thermal collector beneath the module is reached to 11.29%. Read More...
