-Er. Ravindra Jogekar ; Himanshu Chintanwar; Aniket Bhoyar; Vivek Sathwane; Vikram Tomar
In the present time, intelligent management is adopted in each field like communication, home appliance, medicine etc. Unfortunately, the service suppliers of electricity are still using the traditional methods for obtaining the data of energy consumed by the consumer. The traditional method of energy meter billing is a obsolete, inefficient and time consuming one. Technology of e-metering (Electronic Metering) has undergone through technological advancements and there is hyperbolic demand for a reliable and efficient system i.e. Automatic Meter Reading (AMR). The design of a simple low cost dual mode wireless GSM based energy meter and its associated features will make the metering job easier. The proposed system replaces conventional meter reading methods and enable remote access of existing energy meter to the energy provider. It also enables the energy provider to monitor the monthly meter readings without visiting each house. A GSM based wireless communication module allows the consumer for the pre purchase of electricity which is done by the means of recharge. The balance get updated on the consumer account then as the energy is being consumed the amount gets deducted from the account balance. This system also stores the data on cloud and provide real time consumption of energy. Hence this system has been designed keeping in view the system which is of paramount importance. This mode of the system provides flexibility to the customer to pay his bills and helps the energy provider by removing the problems of unpaid bills and human error in meter readings which ensures the justified revenue for the utility. Power Quality Enhancement using Dynamic Voltage Restorer
-E. Jyothirmai ; Pujari Anusha
Voltage sags and swells in the medium and low voltage distribution grid are considered to be the most frequent type of power quality problems based on recent power quality studies. Their impact on sensitive loads is severe. The impact ranges from load disruptions to substantial economic losses up to millions of dollars. Different solutions have been developed to protect sensitive loads against such disturbances but a series compensator is considered to be the most efficient and effective solution. Even the conventional concept suffers with effective controller problems. To tackle these situations, custom power apparatuses are utilized. Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is a modified power apparatus that is utilized to enhance voltage stability i.e. to minimize the power quality problems in electrical power system network. The important parts of the DVR comprise of voltage source inverter (VSI), booster transformers, filter and a dc energy source. The principle of the DVR is utilized to inject the voltage in series and in synchronism with the standard voltages with a goal to compensate voltage influences. There are various control techniques used for the operation of dynamic voltage restorer. This paper presents the hysteresis voltage control technique for generation of switching pulses for inverter of dynamic voltage restorer. Read More...

Space Vector Modulation based over Load Control using In Optimized Fuzzy DVR in Offshore Windmills
-C. Karthick ; Dr. V. Viji
This paper deals with the modeling of Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) for maintaining the Power quality of the system. The common problem in voltage restorer is the time taken to perform the control action and also the phase transmission line. In conventional systems, only voltage is controlled and no efforts are taken to maintain the sinusoidal nature of the current. This project introduces a two stage process using space vector modulation, where both voltage and current are maintained constant irrespective of the variation in inputs due to variations in wind speed in wind power systems. To solve this problem, custom power devices are used. One of those devices is the Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR), which is the most efficient and effective modern custom power device used in power distribution networks. Its appeal includes lower cost, smaller size, and its fast dynamic response to the disturbance. This projects presents modeling, analysis and simulation of a Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) using MATLAB. A new control technique is proposed to control the capacitor-supported DVR where the injection voltage or current is based on the charge held by the capacitor. The proposed hybrid system can effectively suppress the voltage fluctuation. The simulation of proposed work is carried out using MATLAB version 2018a. Read More...

Why Do Structure Fail?
-Sonam Subhash Shinde
The design of structures should satisfy three fundamental requirements:
1) Stability: The structure should be stable under the action of loads.
2) Strength: The structure should resist safely stresses induced by the loads.
3) Serviceability: The structure should perform satisfactorily under service loads.
Defective construction that causes failure may be due to numerous reasons that may not be easy to predict before or during the construction. The major causes of structural failure are defective designs that have not determined the actual loading conditions on the structural elements. Inferior construction materials may also be the cause since the loads are calculated for materials of specific characteristics. Structure may fail even if the design is satisfactory, but the materials are not able to withstand the loads. Employment of unskilled labor on construction work is another reason for structural failures. Reducing failures of buildings and other structures requires competent design; clear communication of that design to the contractor by means of engineering drawings, etc.; careful and competent construction; and effective construction supervision. Therefore, it is important that the owners, designers, and builders are fully conscious of the reasons of failure, and undertake all preventive measures. Stability, strength and serviceability can only be achieved by following basic design principles. This paper presents some cases of different structural failures and the preventions, so other engineers can benefit from this knowledge.

-Sushant Balu Pisal ; Hrishikesh Natha Nalavade; Prashant Tatoba Awate; Ruturaj Lalaso Patil; Suraj Dinkar Chavan
Most of the road accidents occur due to over speeding and traffic violation. Running vehicle disregarding the red light has become a major problem now a day. Due to increasing number of vehicles on the road, monitoring traffic violation manually has become tedious and too complicated. Reckless driving causes serious causality and even death. The rate of road accident is going on increasing and has become a major area of concern. To reduce the rate of road accident we propose a system which controls the speed of vehicle automatically in any critical zone, without major inconvenience to driver. Here, we review a model based on RFID technology. One RFID reader inside the vehicle reads the RFID tag placed either at speed limit signboard or at traffic light. A controlling module in the vehicle then takes the decision and control the speed accordingly. It is not possible for the off-road vehicle to run at high speed on its standard ground clearance provided considering the city obstacles and on-road cars to run over the rough terrain Automatic Speed Reduction System and Adjustment of Ground Clearance Department of Mechanical Engineering Page 3 with its lower ground clearance. To obtain the good performance at high speed and low speed it is necessary to build one system which can vary the ground clearance. This can achieved by changing the suspension height so that the chassis height can be adjusted with respect to the speed and the quality of roads. Read More...

Study for Human Powered Transportation and Its Consequences on General Traffic
-Aadil Rashid Rather ; Sonu Ram; Rayees Ahmad Ganie
In nations like India we for the most part can locate a mixed traffic for example a traffic flow establishing of all sort of vehicles like cycle, rickshaw, vehicle, transport and so on. In Indian urban areas the portion of non-motorised transport (NMT) at peak hours excessively high. Every public vehicle method of transport includes get to trips by NMT at each end. Therefore, non-motorised method of traffic assumes a significant job in fulfilling travel demand in nations like India. To structure a traffic facility it is important to comprehend the conduct of traffic stream. Understanding the conduct of a traffic stream with mixed traffic in very unpredictable. In this theory an attempt to contemplate the non-motorised vehicle attributes and impact on mixed traffic is made. This project work is separated into two sections. Initial segment is the experimental part and the last is the analytical part. In experimental part an investigation of central chart of information got from different streets of Kashmir city. It was seen that with increment in non-motorized vehicle (NMV) % the flow versus density chart is adversely influenced. Density diminishes at a specific flow rate when NMV % increments. Alongside this an examination on example of Lateral Occupancy of non-motorized vehicle (NMV) and motorized vehicle (MV) was finished as for different percentages of NMV and total density. It was considered that to be the percentage of NMV increases the both NMV and MV are very much circulated up and down the street stretch, with a higher concentration in the right hand side, obstructing the stream from the other way. In India it is left hand side drive, so it might prompt side way collision while over taking. Likewise at some point this may end with a traffic jam condition. In the experimental part an examination on variation of speed regarding different parameters was done. It was seen that speed decreases with increment in number of Passenger Car Unit (PCU) in a similar strip, speed decreases with increment in number of PCUs in the adjacent strips and speed increment when distance from the road edge increments. An attempt has been made to propose a model to mimic the speed of a NMV from the information obtained from test results. Fuzzy logic was utilized as a device for etymological grouping of the reason variable in this model. Most definitely it was seen that speed value got tentatively and got from the model are practically same. It was examined that all the three parameters significantly affect the speed of a non-motorised vehicle in a mixed traffic flow. Read More...

Reactive Power Loss Compensation using Improved PQ Transformation and Hysteresis Band Controller
-K. Padmapriya ; M. Selvaperumal
This paper aims at the design and testing of a wind mill based power generation and distribution. The main concern in this project is to ensure that the reactive power generated throughout distribution line is reduced. This occurs due to the non-linear type of load. These types of loads are common in electronics devices such as; laptops, printers, chargers, LED TVs, etc. All these types of loads consist of rectifiers which necessarily convert the domestic alternating voltage to direct voltages. This induces a reactive power due to the lagging of current behind the voltage. Hence, in this project addressing the effects of non-linear loads becomes vital. This paper is applicable to microgrid composed of BESS (Battery energy storage systems), distributed generators (DGs), and Loads. DG is realized using wind mills. The theory and method of active and reactive power coordinated control before wind speed fluctuations were proposed based on the PQ transforms and hysteresis band controller where the control system is designed to reduce the power loss due to the reactive powers. The simulation has been done to improve the power quality in terms of real power. This is achieved by increasing the total power produced by the wind mill (keeping the reactive power same). Simulation results show that the controllers can extract maximum power and regulate the voltage and frequency under varying wind and load conditions. The controller shows very good dynamic and steady-state performance. The simulations had been done with MATLAB ver 2018a using power systems and simscape tool boxes available in Simulink library. Newton Method Based Harmonics Estimation and Elimination using LCL Filters
-Y. Kalviarasi ; R. Rajeswari
The main aim of this paper is to maintain the power quality parameters such as harmonics using LCL filter method after duly estimating the harmonics using newton raphson method. Harmonics are frequencies higher than the fundamental. There are two types of harmonics: even harmonics and odd harmonic. Fourier analysis could be used for decomposition of both types of harmonics. In this paper, a selective harmonic compensation scheme using the anti-harmonic injection and FFT is presented both for voltage and current. This method compensates for the preexisting grid background harmonics using the line current and voltage measurement and provides superior harmonic performance. In addition to the harmonics removal, power factor improvement is also carried out. The proposed method requires measuring the angle of the grid voltage harmonics. This PWM control scheme and further quality parameters have been verified by MATLAB models under version 2018 with power systems and power electronics tool boxes. Read More...

-Sunil N. Gandhare ; Dr. Prema Daigavane
Electrical transmission lines area unit liable to faults and failures. Once a fault happens, it is not possible most of the days to repair it manually. Additional High Voltage (EHV) transmission lines area unit designed to transfer great amount of power from one location to a different. The length exposed to the surroundings may be a major reason for incidence of faults on the lines. A fault on a high voltage line stability of electrical power system that generally results in permanent harm of the instrumentation. Relays area unit developed and put in to guard and protect the lines. The cable protection relays, within the trade, area unit supported the elemental frequency elements of the voltages and currents. These relays would like a minimum of one first harmonic cycle for playacting the protection operation. Voltage and current traveling waves area unit generated once a fault happens on the cable. The speed of propagation of traveling waves is finite and therefore the level of the waves decreases with increase within the distance travelled. Information regarding the fault will be obtained by analyzing the traveling waves. This proposed approach efforts, the power system transmission line protection system using discrete wavelet multi-resolution spectral energy calibration based distance relay. The faulted current and voltage signal get transfer into multi-resolution analysis the once analysis this transfer to threshold identification and detection system. That threshold system operates the circuit breakers connected at the every end of transmission line cable by causation trip signal throughout abnormal faulted condition happens. An improved simulation software package MATLAB 2015 was developed to check the planned fault designation techniques. Comprehensive performance studies were enforced and therefore the check results valid the improved performance of the planned approach over the standard fault designation performed by the cable distance relay.
