Optimization of Process Parameters for Carbide Tool Geometries for the EDM of Ti-6al-4v on Machining Center

Abstract

This machining is most extensively used cutting operations. About 2% of industries are using EDM machine, so it is become prime concern to understand the process parameters and response parameters. It is a non-traditional material removing operation used to machine difficult to cut conductive matrials. The tool and workpiece don’t have a contact in this machining. EDM is employed to machine mix shapes and geometries with excessive accuracy. Optimization of EDM performance parameters multi response optimization is required. The research suggests that machining was improved when optimal machining input variables was used to machine the workpiece. The independent to machine process parameters i.e. Ton, Toff, Ip tool electrode materials, flushing pressure, EDM oil, voltage, tool electrode geometry etc have an influence on the response parametersi.e materials evacuation rate, tool life, surface finish, etc. In this project work Titanium alloy was used as work piece, and copper as electrode having dia. 10, 12, and 14 mm. The experimentation was performed using Taguchi L9orthogonal array and result obtained through experimentation was optimize using Taguchi S/N ratio. After machining, when the outcomes are found, they have been selected and re- confirmation test done so that the optimal result can be obtained.
