Present mechanical industries require continuous improvement in the machines which demand modified lubricants with high efficiency and quality performance. Friction and wear primarily contribute in the failure of mechanical equipment with also increasing the energy consumption. While Lubrication reduces wear of mechanical components thereby prolonging their service life. Introducing micro and nano material additives into base grease can effectively enhance the anti-friction performance of composite grease. This paper aims to study the tribological behavior of modified grease based on friction coefficients, wear scar diameter and EP (extreme pressure) characteristics. Various solid additives such as MoS2, Graphite, CNT (Carbon nano tubes), CaCO3, Graphene, CuO and PTFE with different particle sizes and concentration in Lithium based grease are studied and it is found that addition of these particles productively improves the performance of base grease. |
