Abstract

The non-conventional machining process of wire-electrical discharge machining (WEDM) possesses much compensation over traditional machining during the production of Mild Steel parts. However, certain detrimental effects are also present .An experimental investigation was conducted to determine the main machining parameters which contribute to material removal rate (MRR) and surface roughness (SR) in WEDM of mild steel. In WEDM operations, MRR determine the finances of machining and rate of production, surface finish is the measure of quality. Suitable selection of process parameters is important to obtain good surface finish and higher MRR. In setting the machining parameters, particularly in rough cutting operation, the goal is the maximization of MRR, minimization of SF. This process relies deeply on the experience of the operators.
