Abstract

Foam dyeing is an attractive alternative to traditional dyeing method due to potential environmental benefits and supply chain saving. The main dyeing element in this process is foam, using air instead of water to carry the chemistry between fabric and dye. Development of an environmentally friendly dyeing process with excellent color depth and levelness is an effective strategy for solving environment problem in traditional dyeing. The foam dyeing of polyester with disperse dye has been studied as a less water consuming and add on technology for dyeing. Foaming agent (surfactant) and foam stabilizer were found to be main factors in foam dyeing process. The comparative build-up properties, dyeing properties and total consumption between foam dyeing and conventional dyeing were assessed. The results indicate in foam dyeing, dyestuff has better build-up properties, the dyed fabric has excellent wash fastness, rubbing fastness, sublimation fastness.
