Abstract |
A central objective of the stone column technique to ground improvement is to strengthen porous soil layers. Stone columns are practically more capable of supporting themselves on soils. Stone columns have been shown to have a larger impact on improving soil strength and load bearing capacity in low strength soils. The behaviour of columns in soil was investigated using a tank in a series of laboratory plate load tests. Crushed coconut shell, a waste product, is employed in this work as filler. The length of the crushed coconut shell column—10, 15, 20, and 25 cm—and its 3 cm diameter as stone column used for the study. A plate load test was performed on the aforementioned variations, and the settlement and load carrying capability of the diameter and various lengths of the column were obtained. A numerical study on the above said cases were also performed and the result was obtained. From the results, a comparison between the settlement and load carrying capacities of columns with a 3 cm diameter of various lengths was discovered. |
