Abstract

The Al-Sic Composite material life reduced because of improper solidification due to less heat transfer in mould cavity, in recent days the sand mold casting solidification of Al-sic composite is not unidirectional and continuously taking place. Hence there is a need of high thermal conductivity so by using the deep cryo-treated copper chills are cooling the molten metal in faster rate. And also gives the unidirectional solidification. Cryogenic treatment, which is otherwise called below zero warmth treatment, has made huge commitments to the change of wear resistance, apparatus life. Casting process is a primary process under manufacturing process to produce different types of jobs. It is unique process where mechanical properties and structural properties remains same throughout cross section without any type of heat transfer process, usually different type of heat transfer carried out to improve the properties of jobs according to its specific use through cross section. It has been found that cryo-treatment process is one time heat transfer process to improve the toughness of the material. The quality of casting process depends on molten metal through gating system before entering the mould cavity usually chills made out of copper are embedded in sand casting process to improve the quality of pattern solidification. The cryo-treatment has help in improving the thermal conductivity of the copper chills. Produce the Al-Sic composite casting jobs with different percentage of Sic by using the with and without DCT copper chills in stir casting process, find out the mechanical, tribological and thermal properties of casted jobs and compare the mechanical, tribological and thermal properties of with and without DCT chill casted jobs.
