Abstract

Since COVID pandemic, Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineering underwent a transformational shift driven by convergence across AI, edge computing, smart sensors, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). This paper outlines key advancements till today, including the maturation of reinforcement learning-based control, rise of collaborative robots, expansion of digital twins, and industry-wide implementation of Zero Trust cybersecurity. Unlike speculative projections, this study confines its review to trends and technologies deployed or prototyped. Comparative analysis highlights how these systems surpass traditional paradigms like PID control, isolated SCADA networks, and hardwired safety systems.
