The tourism industry refers to the activity of traveling to and staying in places outside of one's usual environment for leisure, business, or other purposes. Cultural exchanges between different nationalities visiting the country are the most important dimensions of heritage tourism, and they will pave the way for global harmony and peace. Tourism has been perceived on the one hand as an economic option, while on the other hand it has had a greater impact on society and the human spirit. Heritage tourism in India offers a wide range of opportunities. It would be beneficial for the government to encourage private enterprises to promote heritage tourism in a variety of less popular areas. As a country with a rich culture and 30 World Heritage Sites, the tourism industry in India has vast potential. The development of heritage tourism in such areas requires an understanding of the surrounding environment, demographics, socio-cultural background, economics, and political circumstances. The sector is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 0.8% to reach $2.3 trillion in 2023, with a 13.9% growth rate in 2023 alone. A number of emerging economies have contributed to the growth of global tourism over the last five years. There was a contribution of 178 billion U.S. dollars to the country's GDP from the travel and tourism industry in 2021. In 2017, the country welcomed over 10 million foreign tourists, generating foreign exchange earnings of over 27.31 billion U.S. dollars. The purpose of this paper is to examine the scope of heritage tourism in India, which can contribute to the shaping of our society. In addition to driving growth, contributing foreign exchange, making employment more competitive, and contributing to the development of communities, heritage tourism can also contribute to the development of communities. In order to develop a strategic marketing plan for tourism, we have to understand the target customer's needs and wants and how we can match them to the infrastructure of our heritage tourist attractions. |
