Abstract

This paper mainly reviews the development of permanent magnet synchronous motor drive system. It presents several approaches of PMSM control strategies, including control strategies based on classical control, modern control and intelligent control. Recent advancements in electric vehicle (EV) technology highlight the pivotal role of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) in achieving high efficiency and performance. PMSMs are favoured for their superior torque per current characteristics, making them ideal for applications demanding precision and energy efficiency, such as EV propulsion systems. Field Oriented Control (FOC) has emerged as a leading strategy for PMSM control, enabling precise torque and speed regulation across varying operating conditions. Integrating Fuzzy Logic into FOC further enhances control robustness by accommodating uncertainties and nonlinearities inherent in PMSM systems, thereby optimizing performance and responsiveness. Today's research underscores the need for intelligent control methodologies to address the complex dynamics of PMSMs in EVs, focusing on enhancing efficiency, reliability, and adaptability. Ongoing studies emphasize the integration of advanced control theories with practical implementation strategies to achieve optimal PMSM operation in diverse EV environments. This abstract encapsulates the current trends and challenges in leveraging PMSMs with FOC and fuzzy logic for enhancing EV performance and sustainability.
