Abstract |
|
Precision nutrition is an evolving paradigm that personalizes dietary recommendations based on an individual's genetic, metabolic, microbial, and lifestyle profiles. This approach is particularly relevant in the context of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, where traditional dietary guidelines often fail to address inter-individual variability in disease manifestation and response to treatment. By integrating insights from nutrigenomics, microbiome science, and metabolomics, precision nutrition offers a targeted strategy to modulate inflammation, restore gut microbial balance, and improve patient outcomes. This review explores key themes such as microbiota-directed nutrition, gene-diet interactions, and biomarker-informed interventions. While emerging evidence highlights the promise of personalized dietary therapy in achieving remission and symptom control, significant gaps remain in clinical standardization, multi-omic data integration, and long-term efficacy. Future directions call for interdisciplinary collaboration, culturally sensitive protocols, and robust evidence to support clinical and policy adoption. Overall, precision nutrition presents a transformative opportunity for predictive, preventive, and participatory care in IBD management. |
