Authentication is important for ensuring that digital accounts and services are protected from unauthorized access. Traditional passwords are commonly used, but they have vulnerabilities such as weak passwords, reusing passwords, phishing attacks, and the theft of credentials. Modern techniques like biometric authentication, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), One-Time Passwords (OTPs), authenticator apps, passkeys, passwordless authentication, and risk-based authentication offer stronger options. This study looks at these techniques in terms of security, usability, reliability, and how well they are accepted by users. A structured survey was conducted to understand users' awareness, usage patterns, concerns, and preferences. The study emphasizes the need to balance strong security with ease of use for these methods to be widely adopted. |
