Abstract

in recent years, wind energy has become one of the most important and promising sources of renewable energy, which demands additional transmission capacity and better means of maintaining system reliability. The evolution of technology related to wind systems industry leaded to the development of a generation of variable speed wind turbines that present many advantages compared to the fixed speed wind turbines. A new control strategy stator field oriented control to capture optimum power from the wind through closed loop current control and rotor speed regulation of DFIG. The wind turbine characteristics and optimum power curve has been introduced. The generator active and reactive power is decoupled and controlled by stator currents. Mathematical model of DFIG with current control loop using PID controller is designed simulation results in Simulink show the effectiveness of the strategy to maximize the power extracted from the wind.
