Abstract |

In this paper image compression of gray scale images is done with the utilisation of extreme mathematical concepts like self organising map along with the discrete wavelet transform. The self organising map and discrete wavelet transforms are used in a proper sequence as the self organising map is applied for obtaining the index value and code vector, while the latter is applied further on the code vector. The use of both of these methods leads to a good compression ratio and great peak to signal noise ratio. Vector quantization and discrete wavelet transform techniques cause’s losses in the compression that is why size of the image is reduced so that the images compressed can be accepted. |
