A Novel Algorithm for the Position Control System of a Wind Tunnel System

Abstract

This paper presents an algorithm for maintaining the position of an object levitating in a vertical wind tunnel, at a constant level, even after adding weight to it. This experiment was carried out with three Infrared sensors and a brushless DC motor attached to a tube, which formed the wind tunnel. The algorithm worked well with three Infrared sensors, and performed better as the number of infrared sensors increased. Each sensor output was compared with a threshold voltage and accordingly sent to the Arduino microcontroller. The Arduino microcontroller accordingly increased or decreased the speed of the motor depending on the position of the levitating object.
