Abstract |
Watershed planning and management are fundamental for food security, environmental conservation, economic development and livelihoods. In any basin, water is utilized by different land cover and land uses. Up to date information about these Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) classes provide essential information on the water flow path. Accurate land use and land cover (LULC) maps can be effective tools to help soil erosion control efforts, run off estimation etc. 12 sub watersheds in Belgaum District have been extracted from LISS IV image and supervised image classification with maximum likelihood classification algorithm was used to map the land-use/cover classes. Field visits are carried out on the area that is being mapped and collected data that can be used to train the algorithm to evaluate the land cover map and estimate the accuracy of the individual classes. Based on the results from filed visit 12 sub watersheds are classified. |
