Abstract

This paper aims to design a method to detect the abnormalities of Respiration Rate (RR) and Body Temperature (TEMP) of the elderly people and transfer the recorded data through File Transfer Protocol (FTP). This will be most helpful for the elderly people who are in critical condition. The design combines a Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) along with the advanced programming techniques to create a simplified and integrated piece of biomedical equipment. The collected data could be sent through the FTP or e-mail to the health care centres. A 16-bit PIC microcontroller is used to control the hardware and communicate with the computer. The proposed method is tested with six different categories of patients having various respiratory disorders. The experimental result shows that the proposed method is efficient in detecting and recording all kind of respiratory disorders and temperature.
