Abstract

Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is one of the earliest non-traditional machining processes. In the present work investigates the influence of EDM parameter of MRR while machining of cold work tool steel D2 material. Cold work tool steel D2 is an important tool mainly because of its high hardness, strength, wear resistance and high melting point. The parameters are considered pulse on time and peak current. The Taguchi method was used for experimental analysis. The workpiece was machined with different electrode materials namely copper, aluminium and brass. It was observed that the output parameter MRR of EDM increase with increasing pulse on time. The results reveal that high material removal rate (MRR) has been achieved with copper electrode (19.2370 mm3/min) and aluminium electrode gives lowest material removal rate among other two electrodes.
