Abstract

In this paper, a new Global System of Mobile Communication (GSM) authentication protocol is proposed to improve some drawbacks of the existing GSM authentication architecture including: a)not supporting bilateral authentication between MS and VLR b)huge bandwidth consumption between VLR and HLR; c)storage space overhead in VLR d)overloaded in HLR with authentication of mobile stations The main emphasis of this paper to improve some of these drawbacks of the existing GSM architecture. In addition, this new proposed authentication protocol does not change the existing GSM architecture and the robustness of the proposed protocol is the same as that of the original GSM protocol.
