Abstract |

Drought is a feature of climate that is defined as a period of below-average rainfall sufficiently long and intense to result in serious environmental and socioeconomic stresses, such as crop failures and water shortages, in the affected area. A drought index is a prime variable for assessing the effect of a drought and defining different drought parameters, which include intensity, duration, severity and spatial extent. It should be noted that a drought variable should be able to quantify the drought for different time scales for which a long time series is essential. The most commonly used time scale for drought analysis is a year, followed by a month. |
