Abstract

Power quality problems mainly related to non-standard voltage, frequency and current at the load-side. Voltage sag is the most important power quality problems faced by many industries and utilities. This paper presents the improvement of voltage sags, harmonic distortion and low power factor using Distribution Static Compensator (D-STATCOM) with LCL passive filter. In order to maintain the power system quality the D-STATCOM will absorb and provide reactive power to mitigate voltage sags, voltage swell, and interruption and improve power factor in various conditions. The model is based on the Voltage Source Converter (VSC) principle. The voltage source converter is used with D.C. link Capacitor as a D-STATCOM. The D-SATCOM injects a current in to the system to mitigate the voltage sags. LCL Passive Filter was then added to D-STATCOM to improve Harmonic distortion and low power factor. The control of Voltage Source Converter (VSC) is done with the help of SPWM. The proposed D-STATCOM is modeled and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink version R-2011a.
