Abstract |

Block-matching motion estimation is an efficient algorithm for reducing the temporal redundancy in video coding. Many block matching algorithms have been devised to reduce the computational complexity without degrading quality. The most efficient hexagonal block search produces good quality of prediction among all analyzed algorithms. As video sequence consists of a series of frames. In order to compress the video for efficient storage and transmission, the temporal redundancy among adjacent frames must be exploited by motion estimation. We have proposed new approach for early termination based on threshold to avoid redundant calculation when the earlier obtained point is good enough. Significant speedup gain has been achieved over the current search algorithm while maintaining similar distortion performance. |
