To increase continuity of motion and smooth operation of small vehicles like bicycles, mopeds, bikes recovery of kinetic energy can be useful. By using kinetic energy recovery devices like flywheels or governors kinetic energy can be recovered from bicycles, mopeds, bikes. In this project a flywheel is designed and developed and mounted on a bicycle. This flywheel is attached to bicycle with the help of chain. When pedals are operated bicycle moves forward as well as additional energy is stored in flywheel in the form of kinetic energy. This attached flywheel will increase efficiency of bicycle mechanism as well as it will reduce the effort required to drive bicycle on terrain and bumpy roads. As in conventional designs of such a small vehicles there is no provision of flywheel or any other kinetic energy recovery system, large part of this kinetic energy is remained unrecovered. Hence there is a possibility to increase efficiency of these vehicles by using flywheels. The aim of this paper is to develop a bicycle which will work on the principle of kinetic energy recovery. |
