Abstract |
|
In this study, aluminum alloy AA6063 and AA5083 plates were joined/welded in butt position by friction stir welding (FSW). The welding process was performed with different process parameters such as tool rotating speed and welding/traverse speed. Then the joints were evaluated by the results from microstructure analysis and mechanical properties such as tensile test and hardness test. The microstructure evolution of the joints was analyzed by optical microscopy on the weld cross sections. Tensile testing is performed on Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and hardness testing is performed on Vickers hardness testing machine. According to the results, the tool rotating speed, welding speed and tool pin profile have major influence on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the FSW joints. |
