There is a necessity for precise water level measuring sensors in liquid containers for various purposes. The fiber-optic water level sensor presented in this paper is a simpler prototype utilising low cost optical fibers and very simple electronics. This set-up senses water level in a tank to a high degree of precision and is helpful for industrial purposes. The stripped off portions of the cladding of the fiber at two specific sections signals out whether a tank is empty, full or incompletely filled. The measurements are very simple and a few data are involved. Output light intensity through the fiber is indicative of light absorption at the sensing regions of the fiber. This method can also be extended to oil tanker as well as other liquid containers whose level cannot be easily known by visible processes. |
