Abstract |

The progress of wind power technology in recent years has exceeded all expectations. Such a progress has led to cost reduction to levels comparable, in many cases, with conventional methods of electricity generation. Anyway, the increased penetration of wind power in the grid has entailed important technical barriers that limit the development, as stability is a key issue. New requirements are challenging the control of the wind turbines and new control strategies are needed to meet the target. The purpose of the thesis is to develop a wind turbine control system capable to handle short-term grid faults. |
