This study is based on the concept of the capacity spectrum method which will present the procedure for seismic performance estimation of asymmetric RC frame buildings. Earthquakes in the globe and many parts of India in the recent years have revealed issues with regards to vulnerability of existing buildings. Based on the distribution of mass and stiffness along the storey’s of the buildings, the building may be considered as asymmetric in plan or elevation along each storey throughout the height of the building. In India, the hilly regions are highly seismic and the buildings constructed on hill slopes differ from the normal buildings. Numerous investigations in the past have shown that due to earthquakes, the behavior of asymmetric plan buildings situated in hilly areas are more vulnerable to seismic environments and more prone to earthquake damage. This varied configuration of structures in hilly areas has caused them to become highly irregular and asymmetric. |
