This paper deals with an investigation of the effects of processing parameters in plastic injection molding process using one factor at a time (OFT) approach to improve the quality of manufactured specimen. PP homopolymer 1110MAS is used as the work piece material for carrying out the simulation to minimize the shrinkage and warpage. The specimen used is of 169 mm×16 mm×3.2 mm, modeled in PRO/Engineer. The main objective of this paper is to investigate process parameters and their appropriate ranges of plastic injection molding process to minimize the volumetric shrinkage and warpage. The processing parameters considered are injection pressure, melt temperature, holding pressure, injection time and cooling time. Graphical Analysis is carried out to investigate the effect of volumetric shrinkage and warpage. It was found that injection pressure from 45 to 55 bar, melt temperature from 175 to 195 0C, holding pressure 30 to 50 bar, injection time 4 to 4.5 s and cooling time from 15 to 25 s were the appropriate ranges of corresponding parameters to minimize volumetric shrinkage and warpage through Autodesk Mold-flow simulation analysis. |
